Is it possible to have the D-Link RangeBooster N650 (802.11n) as the main router (connected to the modem), and set a D-Link DIR-615 (802.11n) as an access point, and connect my XBox360 to the DIR-615 via cable?

Basicly, N650 sends wireless signals to DIR-615, DIR-615 gets signals and sends them to 360 via wire.

Possible?

I am about to click the 'order' button tbh.

Doesn't XBL have a wireless connection like the Wii?  I don't know that is why I am asking.

Doesn't support the N-network, and it's too far away to recieve the G-Signals.

Plus it's wireless, a really bad idea for serious gaming (I would do wireless with the Wii, not 360), and it's like $100.  Pretty expensive.

it'd still be wireless, kinda....

And I've had wireless for a while, and it has worked perfectly for gaming, until I 'upgraded' to Vista.

It could be possibl, you need to set the gateway adress in the second router to the first router.

Access points don't work like you are thinking. This has been a big gripe of mine for a while now.

An access point will take IN from a wired network and move OUT to wireless. Not the other way around. I went through about 5 different router/wireless/AP's about 9 months ago trying to do what you are doing and it simply was not possible. Be very thorough in your research of this.

oh.

So how should I set this up?

- I can't have wired.
- The "G"-signals won't reach my XBox
- My XBox can't handle "N"-Signals
- My PC would love to be able to connect via wire (Vista + wireless = gay)

What you're looking for is a wireless bridge. Wireless bridges, like wired bridges, simply connect two segments of network together. A wireless bridge does this via a wireless link, as the name applies.

I can't immediately find an 802.11n wireless bridge, but they should be out there somewhere.

Ugh, this is gay.

Anyways, I'm not going to need an 802.11n bridge, as the XBox only supports g-signals.

So I'm going to need a bridge that is compatible with the N650 and sends out g-signals.

How far away is your 360 from your wireless router?

Well, looking at what you were thinking about doing with the two devices you had picked out, what I'm suggesting is an 802.11n router/residential gateway, and an 802.11n wireless bridge with RJ-45 ports. That way you have 802.11n to the bridge, and a wired connection from the bridge to the XBox.

Of course, if you don't need the 802.11n for anything, you can just get an 802.11g bridge with the 802-11g router/residential gateway I presume you already have. Linksys has a few 802.11g bridges, I think.

I can do that?

That's exactly what I've been wanting to do! awesome.

I would need an 802.11n bridge. Can you find any?

I've never used this product, so to be honest, I cannot tell you how it works, but according to the specifications, it looks like something it could fit your scenario. I'd have a chat with D-Link first, just to be sure.
