Does anyone know where i.e. Mashtuur or Karkand or any of these places are in the world? They are real places aren't they? I tried to look up in my atlas but couldn't find any of them.. (Except for Wake Island, but that was a bf1942 map..). Perhaps they have other names, or they are such small places that they're not marked?? But it would be cool to know where they are, so one could travel and see Karkand for example.. Climb up the stairs to the tall building on square and enjoy the view, lol..

Battlefield is a game. With the exception of Falluja in BF2 SF, I believe all cities in BF2-land are make believe. They are not modeled directly after a city, but a mere impression of it. Like Songhua Stalemate and Fushee pass. I'm sure those were modeled on the actual places, but were more of a stereo type than trying to make it authentic. You don't really think Falluja in Iraq looks like the Falluja in SF do you?
um yea some of the chinese maps are REAL placesWinstontheWolf wrote:

this is Bagdad.
this is Bagdad.
I know that Dalian is a real place, not sure if there's a US carrier parked just offshore though -

Also here is a news article about the Dalian nuclear plant -

Oman is also a real place., if you look at this map in the top right you can see the Gulf of Oman -
http://www.asiatravel.com/arabic/oman/gifs/map.gif
Songhua is a river in Northeast China -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songhua
Daqing is China's largest oilfield -

Zatar is an aromatic spice mixture used in the Middle East, especially Turkey, Jordan and North Africa.
Sharqi is an arabic dance
I'm pretty sure they made the USMC vs MEC maps fictional so as not to offend any Muslims. The Chinese maps seem to be mostly factual though.

You dumbasses, of course the Gulf of Oman is a place! It's a country! Sheesh, have you never done Geography.

Klotz: that comparison pic of Baghdad/Karkand is pretty cool. How did you find it?
Hehe thanks for your consideration eucalyptus.. Well I'm a bit slow so I didn't get that one with the BH (Is it because people never find the chopper at its spawn point, cause other people always use it..??).. And also I don't have SF, so I don't know about that Faluja.. But tnx for answer
Yeah actually I didn't look up all maps, but now I found Daqing and Dalian.. The latter is quite a big city too, actually, over 1 mill people.. We should organize a trip to Dalian.. It'd have to be a knife-only of course Thanks Sparklet!sparklet wrote:

A friend of my saw the picture on a newspage in an article about Bagdad.
Well tehmo I certainly know that Oman is a country (I believe actually the only one starting with the letter O..). What I meant to ask were if the features in the map actually resembled a real place.. I mean, if they had a map called South-Finland we would all know that South-Finland was a real place, but did the geographical things in the map actually copy any real place, thats the question..tehmoogles wrote:

yeah, but the nicest thing of all is that if you read the inscription at the loading screen you'll see it says somthing like this : "The city of Falluja in Afghanistan"-]Eucalyptus[- wrote:

O.o what? I meant Falluja the local kebab place in town. Not Fallujah.[DEI]Bart wrote:

nice pointing out of the City of Falluja in Afghanistan thing though, I'll be looking out for it. I have SF but I don't play it often because it's hard on my PC. I'm waiting to get my RAM upgrades. I currently have 512mb and upgrading to 1.5 gig

karkand is very similar to my home town Andover in the UK on a saturday night , only kark is far far less violent . Andover holds the prestigious title of MOST DANGEROUS NIGHT OUT IN THE SOUTH !
