System is a Dell E510

Pentium4 @ 3 Ghz w/ HT

3 Gigs RAM (2G after market)

HIS 2600XT 512 PCI-E video (after market replaced ATI X600)

Ever since I upgraded my video to the above card I'm having audo problems.

No mater what I try HDMI comes up as default and it's a real PITA having to constantly reset my primary audio preferences.

If I uderstand this right , is my Video card just "telling" the MB that it also wants control of the audio and there's no way around it?

I've tried checking other proprties and hit "Apply" before closing the dialog box.

Monitor is a Westinghouse 22" widescreen running at 1680x1050 off a HDMI-VGA adapter {I assume that's what it is, terminology may be incorrect}
Freezer7Pro
I don't come here a lot anymore.

The primary sound device, change it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
