I have looked around for some insight on this problem I have been having for a while and couldn't find anything, and I was hoping you guys could help.

I play a lot of online games, BF2 COD4, COH, Fight Night and others.  For some reason I have no problem playing with anyone anywhere in the world, except my friend who lives around the corner.  This problem has been in all of the games listed, on both PC and PS3.  I even made him buy a new router because he had a pretty shitty old one, but still no joy.  Anyway, anybody have any idea why this is happening? Is it common? Who would I contact about this, my ISP I am guessing, but what do I say, I mean this must be a seriously random thing right?

Anyway any help would be great, in fact any contribution would be great.... Thanx

EDIT: We both have the same ISP

Well, it's concievably a network related configuration mistake on the part of your ISP. Certain setups like metro ethernet and bus topology last loops tend to include features to limit the communications between hosts in the same networks or segments to prevent intercepting communication. There are ways to get around the negative effects of these, but not all ISPs manage to configure their products to do so. I'd talk to your provider, and make clear to them the close proximity involved.

This is, of course, assuming that you're both on the same ISP. In any event, I'd still call the ISP and ask general questions.
