Yeah, squirrels are cute, but if they cost me 15 grand, you bet id want to blow their tiny brains out. And no, you can't catch and release, squirrels are as prolific as mice or rabbits, they'll double in number every year, and will continue to try to enter his house, and cause damage in the process.

I don't like seeing animals die any more than you do (especially cute fuzzy ones) but I hate writing checks for $15,000...

Well I would, but;

1. Squirrels are quite hard to catch, being fast and agile, and preeetty small.
2. There are about 20 of them, and catching one is not gonna do anything if we're really honest, they'll just come back.
3. We are only poisining them because they got past everything we put up to deter them, metal mesh wire, rocks etc.. Hopefully we can get the message through to them not to come back..
4. I do not like the unnessicarily cruel way to kill them, but it gets the job done well, and it wasn't my choice in the first place...

I think this topic has got a little bit out of hand, and I apologise to Spider for my agressive behavior and tone..

I honestly can't believe they got past your deterents, they are smart, but, should a half-smart man put up mesh wire correctly, then you may not have had £15,000 worth of damage.
Squirrels don't like noise, just blast an old football rattle and that could've got them out of your house.

And Dragonclaw, believe it or not, ants are alive, as are most other things on this planet, you can't just kill them because you don't like them... humans can and will destroy any species that get in our way, and the worst thing is, they won't even see it coming.

I dont really like the way you get rid of those animals. There would probably be a way to get rid of them without killing them. Here, we sometimes use white little balls to make them get out of their nests. I dont know how they are called in english, but basically they just stink and marmots, rodents, etc dont like the smell and they get the fuck out within a few hours. I dont know if it would work for a family of 20 squirrels, but it would be worth trying, and you wouldnt have to pick up the dead bodies after the carnage. Now let's say you want to keep it simple and kill them. Well I believe that there exists a poision thats less cruel.. anyway.

And I would want to say something about the mentality of some people here (not necessarily the op... well maybe yes after reading a few of his replies). To them, only the pain of humans should be considered. While they find unacceptable to let a man die without medical attention, they think that we have the right to kill any animal, by any way, if the animal is not usefull to humans. However, "biologically", every mammals feel the same pain and hate it the same way.

Now, let's say you hear about a man who has no job, in some third world country. Pretty useless to humanity right ? Well despite the fact that that man will never serve humanity, it shocks people if they learn that the man suffers from hunger and/or painfull illness. Now what's the biological difference between that man and another useless animal ? (by animal, let's restrict the word to mammals that have a brain that's developped enough so they can feel pain, not like insects for example). Why should we reserve ourselves the right to kill animals (if it's not for the purpose of eating them [im not vegetarian, far from that lol]) more than humans ?

Some good points in there, tbh, also, everything has the right to life, you can't kill an animal because it cost you some money, were you hell-bent on revenge because they ate through, or "though" your wood? Just because humans are smart enough to kill other beings without looking at them die in pain doesn't mean we own this world and pick who lives and who doesn't. I agree with Mint Sauce on one thing, they are pests, but, to them, we are pests, but they don't kill us.

If it did $15K damage to my house, then IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII would classify it as a pest, and the little destroyers of cashflow would consider poison peanuts a pleasant way to go! Ok, so no, I would actually just shoot them or something, but after that much lost cash, I would back killing them 100%.

Now after wire mesh, rocks? whatever else you already have done. Once you have gotten rid of the squirrels you have now, how are you going to keep other squirrels from getting in? Since you already proved to yourself that you are completely incapable of keeping them out of your home, since you can't stop one squirrel or even 20 squirrels from getting in.
If so many squirrels are getting in, why dont you patch up the holes in your house?

I would like to see a picture of what $15,000 in squirrel damage looks like... or what 20 squirrels look like in one place..

Also, if you don't like the way you're killing them, why would you laugh when your dad told you about what it does to them? and why wouldnt't you say something about it?
I'm sure there's many other types of poison out there that will not make your internal organs basicly slowly melt and cause them to bleed from the inside untill you died from the pain. Just to let you know, other squirrels are not going to learn from what you are doing, they will just die from your stupidity

Actually no I would do it because I know what the fuck I'm talking about, unlike you. They're a pest, they're vermin, they kill off rarer species. They are listed in this country as a rodent. That means some people are specifically employed to just go out an kill them. I understand you're a bit of a PETA pussy and that's fine. I love animals too, only not to the point that you do. I also understand in America there isn't a problem, you see the Brown squirrels and like them because they're cute.
