Should Microsoft go on and develop Windows 7 OS or fix Vista and add the new patch for XP(SP3 is coming out in summer of 08 according to some sites).

Windows Vista successor scheduled for a H2 2009 release? according to this link

They should start again.  Design something secure that crashes a lot less.

If they would put DirectX 10 in XP I would be happy.

But Vista's only just been released! They should release a few tweaks for that before forcing yet another upgrade.
I'd like a patch to reset the interface back to that of XP. I hate their changes for the sake of changes.

For christs sake. Dont fucking make another windows, just perfect Vista before doing stupid shit like that. XP has lasted for a good 6 years and Vistas only been out for barely a year.

they should redesign their OS from the ground up...
well, not entirely, but at least the System Registry bit. What a pile of crap that was/is.

Fix Vista up, add DX10 to XP and make a booster back thingy for Vista, to add new shit or something, not make an OS!

*with the booster back, im being realistic, micro wont fix VISTA for no profit*

Why the rush for the new OS? What is there that they would release that would be drastically different than xp/vista?

I don't have low end hardware, so I don't know what all of the fuss is over vista(reduced framerates in gaming aside). I have had much fewer problems with vista than what I used to have with xp. Guess I've been lucky.

A service pack for XP to allow directX 10 is all that is needed (along with the security and other usual SP content).

As with all good software companies, they always have multiple projects in development. In fact, Microsoft would already be 3 years into Windows 7's successor.

They could do that, but that means more work and the possibility of compromising compatibility with older software.  If that happens, it would be a perfect opportunity for apple to jump in and convince people to switch to Mac.

the reasons that vista came out and xp does not have dx10 is because xp would need a totally new core to function with it and it would be like developing a new OS and it would just make xp into vista all over again (they are beginning to show good signs with vista in regards of stability etc now though. but it would just destroy vista and would not be worth it to change it to dx10. so instead of whining just fucking buy vista when you'll need it and actually try it for a few weeks and see if thre really is a difference (because for me it's pretty hard to see) except for the ram allocation problem (sucks ram like a black hole sucks light)

Microsoft Developer: "Well, lookie here!  what's this XP64 thingy?  ooh, we actually made a stable 64-bit operating system, with an XP look-and-feel, using the Server 2003 codebase?!"

They made a good OS - they just forgot about it.  Not enough *ShInEy* to it to make Steve Ballmer blow his load - so it got abandoned.

Consumers apparently don't buy "stable, refined, familiar interface" - they buy "shiny OSX-like interface" that slows their PC down (Vista)
Every personal account I have heard details way more problems with XP 64 bit than Vista 32 or 64 bit.

If your computer can't handle Vista, then its an absolute shittub. Buy a new one.

And you have no excuses anymore. You can buy a Mobo, CPU and RAM (Premium Ready capable) for sub $160 -- IN AUSTRALIA.

"Oh noes, Vista is utilizing all the RAM I bought".  So buy some fucking more, its $25.
"Oh noes, I can't use Aero unless I have a fuckoff graphics card".  Blatant lie, Intel onboard can do it.
"Oh noes, Vista crashes moar". Eh?
"Oh noes, UAC is annoying".  See that fucking shield next to the link? Yeah, that means it'll popup. Don't want it? Turn it off.

I'd really like to know the percentage of people who have actually used Vista, as opposed to all the parrots.
