Download 3dMark06 and run it. If you see any artifacts, it is the card. If not, it is BF2.

I was having an issue with my 8800GT giving me black artifacts on terrain textures - i tried everything, and it disappeared when I reinstalled windows - but reappeared again after i added my standard bf2 customisations (bat files)
It was caused by renaming the Bf2.exe and running from the new file. Running from the original BF2.exe made my problem disappear, might help you.

I get artifacts in some games, but when I open task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and close it, the artigacts are gone. It's weird, but I cba to find out what it's about.
