Well we are looking for a new 50 " flat screen TV primarily for gaming on PS3, but also tv.  We're just at a bit of a fork in the road because from what we have gathered, plasmas > LCD but there is the dreaded fear of the image 'burning' into the TV for the plasma TVs.

Opinions of Plasma vs. LCD for gaming?

LCD

In the past year or two, LCD has caught up with the main advantages plasma used to have (wider viewing angle and brighter colors). However, plasma has not caught up with the advantages of LCD (weighs less, no fading).

Yep, and LCD because it is actually more energy efficient, Plasma sucks energy and gives off a lot of heat.... also Plasmas are hella heavy (shipping or moving it)

You can also get color burning, and "Dead pixels" are common with Plasma screens, basically red dots appear on your screen :\

So LCD is superior!

42"< = Plasma is win.
42"> = LCD is win.

Plasma does have short burning times, but so long as you watch what you do and maximise your resolution (so you don't have a black outline) you'll be fine.

Everyone who is saying LCD, for pictures greater than 42" the Plasma is far supirior, much better picture. Brighter, more contrast, etc etc. But anything under 42" and LCD pwnz.

I just bought a 42" LCD, haven't looked back, it's awesome.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

As I said in the other thread, LCD for the fact that plasmas may burn parts of the HUD of whatever game you play into your screen.

Without a doubt pioneer 508xd or lx if you got the money to spent....that is plasma and one of the best you can get.

Regarding the burn in....it is almost none existing in the new models.... you have to get have the same picture static for a very long time.....I got the 428xd and it turns off after 3 hours with no contact with the TV (this can of course be changed) ...retention is still there of course but I have seen nothing on the 8G pioneer screens. you don't get much better PQ then with a 8G pioneer plasma....If you want the most of the tv a ISF calibrating is a must but still with your own settings it has brilliant PQ....and the black is the most black to date (not counting unreleased screens such as next gen pioneer). So basically don't get a LCD screen.

If you are not made of money then Panasonic plasma is also very very good quality also PQ. Especially considering the price difference between them and pioneer 8G
