About two weeks ago, I noticed that I was close to receiving a few veteran badges and that I still needed to obtain my Explosives Ordinance badge. So for the past few weeks I have been focusing primarily on getting those badges. I tell you what, as soon as you do that the fun level drops dramatically. Just last night I started playing to play again. I love the game for the game, not for the awards or badges. It is nice to get them, but when you primarily focus on them, it sucks. What do you think?
I play just for fun. But I am heading towards the next two unlocks then it's unranked for me. Unlocks are my carrot, for me anyway.
The only one I actually tried to get was the knife/pistol badge to see what everyone was talking about, but I must say I'm playing and all the sudden something pops up saying 'You have been just awarded....' is kinda cool getting something as I look up and see 'You were critically wounded. Time to respawn 13'

First I started playing like anyone. Then the badges and so started coming in. Now when I'm near my next badge I try and achieve it as soon as possible.

Lots of drumrolls for ribbons and badges.
Tons o' fun

Well I envy anyone who plays to play
but BF2 is like americas army.
America's army isn't fun.
It's just sooooooo cool and so hard to get like 2 kills without dying...
The fact that you're the one who is written as the killer, its just the only thing that makes the game fun... the fact that killing is so difficult.
In BF2 its the awards.
I won't go AA vehicle just for fun for example if I have no AA badge\ribbon to achieve... and stuff like that.

i agree, but seeing those shiny badges is fun too.
If just depends on your playing style. I personally like to go for ribbons and badges, that's what makes the game mostly fun for me. If gives that challenge. I thought the Expert knife was tough...no...try Expert explosive. Tough...took me a while, but got it. Best time in this game yet.
I just came to this conclusion a week ago, too....
I was playing for fun, sure i got badges once in a while, but I primarily played for fun..... MAN THAT WAS FUN!
Then last week I tried to get the expert knife basge and as you said, immediately killed all the fun of the game.... My blood pressure went through the roof, as did my keyboard and anything else that got in my way....
So all of a sudden I thought: "This game used to be fun" so I said F*** to trying to get the knife badge and all of a sudden I started having fun again. But that doesn't mean I don't like getting badges, but I no longer strive for them. It's more fun if you get a badge just for playing, than trying to "work" for a badge. That's just asking for cardio-vascular problems.

mmm, I dunno, I'm a bit of both, I mean I'm working towards getting specific badges, but when I start to get annoyed at it, I'll just stop and go bac to simply 'playing to play' for a while. But yeh, I enjoy the challenge of trying to get that next badge or ribbon, so I work at it
Well thats stress & video games for you. Look at me, ive got a stress related illness & if I get over stressed I end up with internal bleeding & some other unpleasant things. So I avoid badges like the plague now, unless im jus going to get there anyway. Lifes to short to collect ficticious awards, just have fun
i go through different mind sets. sometime i just want to play for fun and have a laugh. other times i think about going for some of the badges.
just now i am playing for fun.
just now i am playing for fun.
I'll tell you something that I was told when I said fooking: Say fuck, you'll live longer.DocZ wrote:

I triedl to get the badges and my keyboard has now suffered as a result. I halfto get a keyboard (lost the w & Esc keys), the fun just died. I'm going back to having fun..
i agree....i used to focus on gettin my badges and crap and i just started gettin pissed at the game cuz i suck that much AND i just lost interest. Dont get me wrong i love hearin that catchy little jingle sayin i unlocked something or other but....im come to terms with the fact that things will just come the less you stress out about them....def makes the game that much better....you just gotta have fun with it....
