So, soon I will buy a better cooler... 2 things: It must be silent (as much as possible, while still doing a good job in cooling the CPU); it must fit my pc case and of course the motherboard. I was looking at some Zalman fans, but they look huge!! Any ideas?

To make it easier for those who want to help me, here is pic of the socket space on my motherboard.

And going from that picture, not tall enough to clear those heatsinks.

Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme (or the normal ultra120) has pretty huge clearance, it'd probably make it over that lot.

BTW I run my Ultra 120 Extreme without a fan = totally silent

Clearance? Roger. Edit: From what I have read this is a more effective cooler.

Thanks for the quick replies!
jsnipy - on that photo, u have the Thermalright Ultra120, right? Hm, It's very tall, isn't it? I must check if I will be able to close my PC case, if I put that, lol!

and what about this - Zalman CNPS8000, will it fit, and is it any good?

that is the extreme, 6 heatpipes on it.

normal 120 is just 4.

EDIT: Give me 2 mins to go find my photos of my Extreme, they're shit quality but it shows you how huge the damn thing is.

EDIT2: http://rapidshare.com/files/82163793/PC_Pics.rar.html

My case is an Antec 900, it's huge and only just fits my 120 extreme in (its about 5mm from the window of the side pannel lol)

I was too scared to put that on , but i only have 1 deck of heat pipes so Zalman fit ...

Another I was looking at the time was http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 835154001. But the Thermalright seemed to have the best results in tests.

My friend just switched from a Zalman CNPS9700 to a Ultra120 Extreme, put a Silenx iXtrema 90CFM fan on it, temps dropped by over 10*c, running an e6600 at 3.7Ghz at 45*c full stress load lol. Best cooler on the market by miles.

Probably wouldnt fit, looks badly designed (its blowing heat back down on your CPU) and only has 4 heat pipes, so I wouldn't buy it.

lol yeah it'd make quite a good mace weight isn't a problem it comes with a coushioned back plate to support it and spread the load, plus it's not actually that heavy really.

I always suggest the Thermaltake V1. I have it...I barely hear it, and it's on full speed.

My CPU right now is at 34c, and it's overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2.

Dont you have to attach a fan to the Ultra120? Do you just buy a casefan for that?

I tried the V1... only stayed in the computer for a week.  The temps sucked compared to my Tuniq 120 and it was stupid loud.  I ended up turning the fan down to shut it up, but that made the temps suck worse.

To OP:  The Thermalright is the best, but the Tuniq works well and is also fairly quiet.  You might want to look at the Scythe Ninja too.  It's HUGE, but very quiet.

Around 45*c with no fan, drops to about 37-40 with a really bad fan on.

Ah i see. Its a good mobo though. I'm asking cos i will also need to buy a cooler but dunno if it will fit. The new 780i mobos have big chipset coolers and it might interfere with each other.

Is 45 under full load and it looks like your multiplier is 8?
