Back when BF2 was first released, the award requirements were insane - something like 1500 hours for expert vehicle badges, 1000 hours for expert kits, and such (there was a thread on this some time back, with all of the requirements listed). They were reduced after one of the patches. My question is, does anyone out there now have the requirements for some of the more impossible awards?
I don't have any of those, but I do remember a requirement for the silver ground defense badge included being in ground defense for 15 hours. So I'd sit there in it all day while doing homework or watching tv or something... turns out that was the biggest waste of time ever haha.
Expert knife. I remember that was 1,000 kills and eighteen in a round. I got the eighteen in a round but that was 1.12 where I had maybe around 700 knife kills.
1500 hours of play time for the each individual Special Forces medal, I can remember that.

Since it's on my karma list
I was close to hitting silver engineer combat on the old ranks when 1.12 (or whatever) came out. Since then, I put on like 2 hours as engy.

Also: lol, SF medals.
The requirements for the awards when the game was first released demonstrate how little thought EA/Dice actually put into the game.
Ranks:
500 pts PRIVATE FIRST CLASS
1,000 pts LANCE CORPORAL
10,500 pts CORPORAL
25,000 pts SERGEANT
50,000 pts STAFF SERGEANT
75,000 pts GUNNERY SERGEANT
150,000 pts MASTER SERGEANT
150,000 pts +many Basic Combat badges FIRST SERGEANT
250,000 pts MASTER GUNNERY SERGEANT
250,000 pts +all Basic Vehicle Combat badges SERGEANT MAJOR
Until patch 1.12, Sergeant Major was the highest rank. Pretty hard to get it too!
As for the badges...the kit badge requirements were mostly:
Basic: 10 kills IAR using the kit.
Veteran: 20 kills IAR, 250h played in the kit
Expert: 40 kills IAR, 1000h played in the kit.
Expert Command: 33 mins IAR, 150,000 Commander points.
Expert Engineer/Medic/Support: 25 repairs/heals/ammo pts IAR, 1000h in the kit
It was in the expert vehicle badges that you can see they put no thought into it. Laughable:
Expert Armor: 24 kills IAR, 1000h using armor
Expert Aviator: 24 kills IAR, 1500h using plane
Expert Air Defense: 24 kills IAR, 750h using Air Defense
Expert Helicopter: 24 kills IAR, 1000h using helicopter
Expert Transport: 11 road kills IAR, 1000h using transport, 50,000 driver ability pts
Expert Ground Defense: 24 kills IAR, 750h using Ground Defense
EDIT: oh yeah, and what Drexel posted

I got BF2 1.5 yrs ago on whatever patch came before 1.3, so I never saw all the old ranks + badges...
They seem more than a little excessive!
I thought 400 hrs in a tank was bad enough

Wouldn't you hate to fly against a pilot with 1500+ hours though?
War College Ribbon requirements was Win/Loss had to be better than 3:1 and over 50 hours commanding something like that
Only a few 1337 achieved that

Seeing as most people won't ever play that many hours in total, kinda hard to see anyone achieving itaimless wrote:

Hell, maybe someone already has, but I can't be arsed checking
I remember when it took 20,000 points to get to the rank Sergeant.
I remembering playing my ass off to get corporal. I felt so 1337 when I joined a server cause most people were LC or PFC. Then when I was 6000 shy of getting Sgt they made the ranks lower. I remember the patch the ranks changed... 1.03
Me and my friend ditched school that day to wait for the patch to be released.

I actually got it legit, 18 in a round.Fat_Swinub wrote:

Fuck that took ages.
Good thing I came in the 1.41 era! I just might have quit playing after trying everything out.
Actually it was 100 total and 18 IARJET_G raidensen wrote:

Remember when 2nd Lt was 200,000 points? This was after the reduced the requirement for the Enlisted ranks but haven't added Officer ranks yet. Damn time flies, I miss the old days of BF2 *sniff*
I remember that, it was very hard, remember the Magic Eightball VideoCbass wrote:

Can't find it anymore but it was a cool movie!
Ah those were the days. Back when you saw a sergeant and thought "wow, he's a high rank." Back when getting a medal really meant something. Back when you had to cower in fear every time you heard a Blackhawk coming .
Then EA released that patch and everybody went up 4 or 5 ranks..

I got my wcr back then. It was pretty hard, but luckily my account was new and I was able to work towards it. I know a lot of people just teamswitched back then, but I just played on servers that didn't swap teams, and had like 10 round rotations. (GI joe servers). still it took me almost 3 months of just commanding and only working on the wcr to get it.(T)eflon(S)hadow wrote:

They should have left it as it was.....
Was brilliant.... everything meant something back then. I would be a seargant now rather than a Colonel, aand I would have enjoyed it damnit.
Lets face it, how many generals fire a gun at enemy on a battlefield??
:?
Kooda

You mean an award for teamswitching ROFL! , sorry you didn't have to be elite for that(T)eflon(S)hadow wrote:
