I went to see Alien Vs Predator 2 last night with my bro. We agreed the following ranking of the Alien/Predator franchise

Predator > Aliens > Alien > Alien 3 > Alien Resurection > AVP 2 > Predator 2 > AVP

Agree/Disagree - Discuss

I'll agree it certainly should have come lower than Alien Resurection in the rankings.

Predator had Arnie in it.

I'd continue, but I think I've made my point.

The fact that the girl dies just makes all the effort and bravery Ripley went through worthless. And I think it's the start of the computer special effects era, the Alien looks terrible.

But i guess its:
Predator > Alien Resurection > Predator 2 > Alien > Aliens > Alien 3> AVP

I hate the old-ness of Alien and Aliens and i hated the non-existant plot in AVP...

What ever happened to that fuck ugly Alien in Alien Resurrection? Why aren't there any in AVP/AVP2?

O MY GOD!

What are you kids talking about!

Predator was good, but not better than Alien and Aliens!

@Floppy,  wtf, Alien Resurection > those others?! You hate the oldness of Alien and Aliens?! What do you hate the oldness of Star Wars, Indianna Jones, Back to the Future?

Alien 2 > Alien > Predator > Predator 2 > Alien Resurection > Alien 3 > AVP (not seen AVP2)

My point, which I didn't make very well, was that all pre-1994 Arnie films are catagorically awesome without exception, question or caveat.

I'd agree with you about "The Matrix", but Reloaded and Revolutions lost my faith.
Can't believe you put alien resurection and predator 2 so high.

FACT: Last Action Hero is awesome, the entire film Arnie takes the piss out of every film he's ever made!

And Kindergarten Cop.

IMHO:

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 = A trilogy, and a bloody good one at that. Aliens is still in my opinion the best sci-fi-action-thriller ever made. Nicely named genre, I know.

Alien - Resurrection = Cashin in on the franchise a bit, but still getting a somewhat good end-result (except for that stupid looking alien-human thig which I've mentioned earlier)

Predator = A classic action movie, yet has nothing on the Alien trilogy. Alien 1, 2 & 3 are far smarter movies than Predator, which is just an alien guy wearing a cloaking device, killing people. Whoopde-doo. That same thing works in the Alien movies, because there's just a certain atmosphere that can be done with a huge acid-bleeding monster in a sci-fi environment compared to a dude with dreadlocks jumping around in the treeline and failing to see Arnold just because he happened to fall into a bit of mud.

Predator 2 = Oh come on.

AVP & AVP2 = Just.. ..no. The only thing good about AVP was to see Lance Henriksen die again (see: Aliens, Terminator, Jennifer 8, that Van Damme movie nobody can remember because it was bad, and so on). I won't bother to see AVP2. The main reason for this movie is just to cash in with as little effort and investement possible. Nice cast, I bet 20th Century Fox got the whole cast hired for under 50 bucks.

This whole conversation feels awfully dejavu-ish to me..

Conclusion

If all the movies mentioned above were playing simultaneously at the moment, i.e. as "re-runs", I'd go watch Aliens. And if Aliens was in cinemas at the same time as all the movies that are currently actually playing, I'd see Aliens.

We'd better get back, 'cause it'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night.. ..mostly.

Kindergarten Cop or not, I stick by my statement. It must have been good, they ripped off the entire story-line with "The Pacifier" a completely fail-from-the-start Vin Diesel vehicle, which no-one in the world went to see (Anyone brave enough to admit it gets karma)

Yes Aliens is a better series than Predator, and when you do the calculations on what Aliens had and what Predator had, Aliens wins.
But then entertainment isn't about maths, otherwise "Shoot 'em Up" would be the greatest gun-fight film ever with 9 fight scenes, but it isn't. And by that same rationale, Pradator just wins it for me. It's slightly shitty, poorly acted, and without plot, but it just has something loveable about it that can't be expressed in words.

Ninja's in love again.

AVP2 rocked. Brilliant game, especially once you got used to the controls and the strange vision modes and the alien wallcrawling.

And had something games seem to lack these days; a fucking storyline.

FACT: Bill Paxton is the only actor who has been killed by an Alien, a Predator, AND a Terminator.

Anyway:
Aliens > Alien > Predator > Predator 2 > Alien 3 > Alien Resurrection > AVP (haven't seen AVP2, hope it's good.)

Nonetheless, AVP2 was an excellent game. Instead of the stupid AVP movies we have now, they should just have made a movie out of AVP2 the game. That would have rocked.

Also, if Aliens were in cinema's now, I'd go and see it immediately. I'm too young to have seen that movie in a theater (it came out the year before I was born), and I would pay a lot of money to see that movie on a huge screen with ridiculous sound effect. Instead I'm just stuck here watching it from DVD over and over again.

EDIT:
Also, why doesn't Terminator count in this stuff? I think the terminator films count as sci-fi thriller as well, so here I go:

Aliens > Terminator > Terminator 2 > Alien > Predator > Predator 2 > Terminator 3 > Alien 3 > Alien Resurrection > AVP

*cough* and Lance Henriksen too. (technically, Bishop died in Aliens, he got killed at the police station in Terminator, a Predator killed him in AVP).
