BAD problems with Palit 8800GTX....

just got my card today... Installed to my rig. I was happy. But then I installed atitool and ntune to check the temps...
the card idles at 77c and under load it gets 99c! and the fan is LOUD. idle temps with 100% fan speed are 72c....
And the card's pwm squeals at load...

I also tried playing crysis and it looked bollox compared to ATi... and ran just as slow as with my HD 3870....

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........

Did the previous owner happen to mention why he ditched this card? And did you happen to buy it for an ''ultra low in comparison to other 8800GTX's price?'' If thats the case, you might have been screwed over! If not, I don't know, since I am no expert on this.

a friend of mine had the same performance issues when he got his 8800gtx, it was all down to the drivers. Since you are obviously not a " Dumb Fuck" i assume that you fully removed all video drivers and installed the latest Nv ones !. That sored his fps problems out.

yes. completely removed previous drivers and installed the latest driver available at nvidia.com...

no srsly, there was a very thin piece of plastic, more like film than anything else, attached to the fan assembly. i peeled it off and my card instantly ran cooler. it's honestly not noticeable unless u are lookin for it.

Sounds pretty smart to me, getting a used 8800GTX under warranty. If it works flawlessly, you paid substantially less for a perfect product. If it doesn't, you RMA it and end up having paid substantially less for a completely new product.

more performance. And it costed a little less than a new G92 GTS which is 5% slower than GTX.

The GTX costed 485€ as new. Which means either I get a really fast GPU from RMA or get the money.... They probably are not going to give me the money tho. If they do, I'll buy a HD 3870 X2. What makes it more interesting is the fact that they don't sell the GTX anymore. ;D

It is a win-win situation for me. Only downside is that I have to use my X800XT PE for a week or so.

I highly doubt that you'll get anything back but the card itself. Probably not even with a newly installed cooler. They'll tell you not to worry about the temps and use it until it breaks - and until the warranty is void.

(if not, what about a new 8800GTS? )

I think they'll take it... it is too loud, hot and squeals... And nothing less than an overclocked G92 GTS is accepted back...
I know the store well so I know they are fair with these RMA stuff.

Heh. I just called the store about my card and they said it was piece of shit...
They told me that they already had ordered a brand new GTX (if I remember corretly, it is ASUS) and I should get it next week.
So this is a nice ending for me. I paid for used GTX and got a NEW GTX I win....

Their supplier has no Palit GTX cards in Finland so they ordered an Asus. I don't mind getting an Asus because I won't have to see the stupid Palit frog ever again
