Having to be the pilot for hopeless gunners is, like someone else said, as frustrating as claymore spamming on karkand. Usually I just put up with bad gunners, but I sometimes try to make them get out over enemy flags by pretending that were going to cap it together. I only ever redline if the gunner deserves it for having TKed earlier in the round or something like that though.

Oh, and about the chopper; if I see someone walk to the chopper, switch seats to gunner-pos. waiting for me to hop in and take off and DON'T answers the question why he does this, I'll eventually take him to a place I like and jump out at low height.
If you see me do this, I WILL jump out and TK you for being an ass. Or shoot at your chopper for the rest of the round whenever I see it. I can't fly worth crap no matter how hard I try, and I'm a halfway decent gunner who just needs practice and a pilot who isn't shooting around at 500MPH trying to make me hurl.
And yes, I use the cannon to hammer on enemy choppers. If their first action is to barrel-roll, I'll just keep it pointed at them until they fall out the sky.

Also, if you people refuse to have random people gun for you, how to you expect them to learn? It's not like you can practice it on an empty server like you do flying. 'Oh look I need time to line it up I'm spinning crunch kaboom'.

Try single player dragon valley, if you need practice.

they can practice in single player.if i only have an hour to play this game i'm not going to waste it with a gunner that doesn't know how to use the TV missile.he can learn on his own time.

No way! I did exactly that to get used to swaping roll and yaw around on mouse and keys with choppers

Singleplayer is nothing at all like an online environment. I've tried gunning there, and the swarm AI behaves nothing like real people. The best aid for learning is a forgiving pilot; it's how I learned to use the TV missile properly. (The cannon came from circle-strafe spawnraping on sharqi to keep the Cobra out the sky)

I do, however, think that anyone who wants to gun should spend a few hours trying to shoot the chopper out the sky with whatever he can get his hands on, much like anyone who gets in a tank should spend time trying to destroy one. It gives you a vast insight on what the hell you're meant to shoot at while you're cruising around.

Elitism prevails once more.

I don't give a flying fuck who my gunner is, as long as he knows the TV missile exists.

Even if he blows at steering the missile, I'll line him up so he doesn't need to steer the missile to hit the target.

Side note: Bots don't line you up. Durrrr.

I agree, sort of. Yes, single player and multi-player are two different things. However, you can get the basics on single player. How I learned was I created a server and learned how to fly, learned how to use the TV missiles, all that. Then when I was confident I went to single player, and eventually moved up to multi-player. Although the AI on single player is really stupid, it gives you moving targets that are usually forgiving themselves. Once you are good at single player, try multi-player and you will learn how AI and humans differ in the game and it isn't that hard to cope with it.

If they go right into multi-player without some training beforehand, then they will probably come across some 3 star general talking over viop to his clan buddy and molest the new guy so bad that he won't ever want to gun again.

Go in a server where you can try flying and gunning ALONE. Best maps to learn are Dragon, dalian or wake. Then when you can use TV come and fly with me.

ill give u a chance, if u cant gun ill bring u back to main and ask u to bail, if u don't ur gettin redlined no problem

also there are a few modified chopper only servers out there wherre u can get a chopper easy so go there and practice

I think you're wrong, I tried to learn how to TV on a public server, I just couldn't do it -- I died way too quickly. So I took it to single player, the AI doesn't act like humans, no -- but it's a hell of a start, I went onto SP and looked at the minimap -- TKed any vehicle, any troop and any tank I could see, even if it was my own team.

Now I'd rank myself as being pretty good with the TV missles, even to the point where I could say I'd hit 80-90% of the time on everything (Evading choppers, jet etc)
