Crash issues with 8800GT. Help needed.

bah...ok I got a new card, the XFX 8800GT ALPHA DOG EDITION 512MB. Also I got a new 800w PSU, cause my old 400w was not going to be able to handle it...the rest of the system: c2d (E4500) ; 3GB ram; Asus P5B motherboard.

now, everything seems to be running fine for some time (when playing a game), but, for example, in CoD4 I'm playing, then suddenly the screen freezes and I get some weird green stuff on it, all over the place, its like the signs of overheating. I use the optimal settings for CoD4 according to the game itself, but the temps are 50-maybe 65 C when I'm playing cod4 and when it crashes...So it cant be overheating can it...It has crashed with company of heroes as well.

I have the latest drivers installed, I even tried it with the previous driver version that was on the disc which came with the card...

I'm running out of ideas here ;(

Edit: Also, when I try running the "Stability check" for the GPU in the Nvidia control panel, then in the first 2 tries, it started, showed a screen of some models moving etc, then THAT window crashed like the game crashed, green shit everywhere...Now when i run the test, i dont even get the window with the models moving around etc...

I'd suggest completely removing the drivers and installing them again. There's a program to uninstall very well, can't remember it though. Anyone?

Yea, i tried that though. I uninstalled it at Device manager, before installing the new drivers...

The temps are the same as mine-normal. On idle the vent is only working on 30% so when on full load it works on 100% but the temp stays the same. Check if everything is plugged firmly. By that i mean the power supply connectors. I hope you bought a good, stable PSU.

Hm, well I'm stumped. Only thing I can recommend is reformat, but I doubt you want to do that..
Get your CPU to full load and check the temps of the GPU. It might just be that by the time you're checking them they've cooled off.

Yea, I've tried turning the vent speed to 50% when playing cause i thought it was overheating...Ill check the connectors, and I'm pretty sure its a good PSU.

Run a high spec game at high graphics, that'll do it.

Btw, it's going to go mega slow at 100%.

Try Driver Cleaner Pro. Remove old drivers, reboot in safe mode, run driver cleaner pro, reboot, and install new drivers. Try that. And else check if all the cables are connected correctly to the PSU and GFX (I had the problem with my 8800GTX one wasnt connected and it started artifarcting and ended up damaged).

Should i get like the crysis demo and max that, to get a steady 100% cpu?

Why wouldn't 400W be enough? 800W is crazy overkill. You can SLI 2 8800GT 512MB cards ok using a 600W PSU.

As long as you have sufficient amps, all is well.

You don't need to use Crysis to get 100% CPU load. They make programs for that, like Prime95 and Orthos.

I did that Driver Cleaner thing. Now after about 2h of BF2, the screen froze. I didnt get any artifacting though

Check your gpu temps, maybe it's overheating?

This happened to an old ati card of mine, only it wasn't heating, it was just a bad card.

k, I'm running the ATI Tool now, "scan for artifacts"... how long do i need to run it though. It has been going on for 13 minutes now, and with the card fan speed at 70% the temp kept rising to 70, and then back to 69C. It is around the 70 C line now. No errors found so far. Just before I ran the ATI Tool, I was playing cod4 and got that crash with green artifacting.
