DirectX 10.0 looks great on games, you just need to view it on the right monitor. Also, Vista's theme takes advantage of DirectX 10.0 too! (Hence cards like the 8500GT)

But on a non-DX10 card, Vista hasn't really got anything better. There are Vista themes (Wich include Aero clones) for XP. On low-end machines Vista is a real no-no.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Needs at least a gig of RAM to do basic computing or else it'll run as if it has spyware on it.

Most PCs are pre-built with at least 1GB now anyway though? I'm sorry, but if you are going to 'clone' Vista on XP (which is stupid anyway), why not just get Vista?

XP with Vista themes etc run faster than Vista on low-end.

I'm only bumping this to see if its still a possibility and if it will work. I'd rather play my games on xp and vista.

It is with great sadness that I announce the closing of Falling Leaf Systems, LLC. We set out over a year ago to provide users of both "old and unsupported" as well as "alternative" Operating Systems the ability to run the latest games for the PC. Unfortunately, Falling Leaf Systems was unable to achieve that goal.

That was on their website so did they abandon the idea?

What's the fucking point of that?!?!?
DX10 titles in DX10 mode push DX10 cards pretty hard as it is, running through software emulation no DX10 titles will run at anything even approaching playable speeds.

Interesting idea, but ultimately fundamentally flawed and pointless.
Bertie; whilst I don't disagree with you at all, I'm just wondering, surely they have some one think about this kind of stuff before starting these kinds of projects?

The people who do these projects typically are not seriously doing it as a workable solution, just as a project to see if they can do it.

That, and the fact that a lot of programmers seem to have some serious misconceptions about what you can and can't do on certain hardware.
