KK guys, I've never built a pc myself and on monday it will be my first time. I've got a new graphics card, cpu, mobo, hd and psu.

I know, the most is just an replacement...

BUT, when I have a new hd, do I just put the windows cd in the cd player and install, then install the new component's drivers?

Ima nub.

Any tips on putting it together, things I should be looking for? PICTURES WILL FOLLOW ON MONDAY

ye pretty much, just make sure that the hardrive your installing windows on boots after your cd drive, you can do that in your bios

As long as you put the thermal paste on the right side of the CPU you should be absolutely straight !

You set the CD drive to the first boot device in your BIOS. Then you restart it, and wait for it to say "Press and key to boot from CD . . ." and you press a key. Then it takes a few minutes to load through a bunch of junk. Then you get to the install page. You have to create a partition (or several, if you like) and then you format and install. Make sure you do the full format. After it formats it will restart and start installing Windows.

After Windows is installed, install all of your motherboard drivers, then video card drivers.

Then, you're good to go.

Uh no, just don't press the key to boot from the CD.

But you'l have to reset it later anyway, so you might as well do it then.

You technically don't even need to set the CD drive as the first boot device. My primary hard drive is always the first boot device, and I can still boot from CD's if they're in the drive.

I just said to do it that way because it's a fail-safe.

Basic Input/Output Settings.

If you aren't familiar with it, just get in, change the device priority if you need to, and then get out. You can mess stuff up easily.

Your motherboard manual will give a brief over-view on how to do this for your particular board. It's simple stuff, really.

If you have no idea how to handle the BIOS I would strongly recommend you ask somebody around (RL) to show you. You can screw your comp pretty badly if you press the wrong buttons in there...

Partitions are FTW.

When I formatted my 250GB I split it 50/50. Formatted the Windows partition and then formatted the other half from within Windows when I wasn't doing anything.

if not. if u have a second computer just be on these forums while ur doing it and someone will help walk u through it....

and final suggestion. take it into ur local computer shop and they will do it all for u (including putting it together) for a small price (anywhere from $50-$150)
