Wow, didn't realize Legos had been out that long.  Google kindly alerted me to the importance of today:
https://img262.imageshack.us/img262/4026/legogooglebs8.jpg

I remember some of my old Lego sets - the Amtrak-like motorized train with the old tracks that had the current running through them (unlike today's plastic tracks and battery-run trains), and the space shuttles, one with the launch pad and the other with the airplane it humpbacks on.  Of course, these sets were all fairly new when I was young.  I think the oldest set I have is a medical helicopter that resembles a chinook, which is from 1989 (according to this site):

Anyone else care to comment/reminisce on the wonder and awesomeness that is Legos?

And yes, I know the brand is Lego, but who refers to it without the "s" at the end?!?!

Shit yeah! I remember all the classic sets I used to own, as well as some I wasn't lucky enough to . Res-Q, the Octan based petrol things, the ice planet miners, the insect aliens (insectoids) Aqua sharks, Space Police etc. Makes me sad I can't play with them anymore : .

I used to have the most awesome wars, used to build tanks and walkers and shit, built a city out of the remaining parts and then pretend the Lego guys had to defend their city against my plastic army men. Damn I miss being a kid. Lego is legendary awesome.

Ive still got my old catalogues of Lego, some as old as from 1992. If only i could find them :<

EDIT: http://www.lugnet.com/pause/search/browse.cgi  list of all the themes. Good stuff

God I fucking love LEGO!!!! Anyone remember Ice Planet?? Those things were awesome. I'm pretty disappointed in the newer sets, though. They're not very creative, and they're containing fewer and fewer pieces (the whole fun of it was sorting through and building it all; plus less pieces means less customization).

I'm 21 years old and I'll still get the urge to build things. I remember when I was in elementary school every summer a friend and I would take those few months to build a city (sometimes spending 8 to 12 hours a day on it).

And after discovering this site, I'm tempted to buy some stuff (namely some monorail sets and some other spaceships or bases) and get building again. Heh, guess that's why I'm an engineer

That stuff was a better form of amusement for me as a child than any video game or TV show could have ever been. I hope to see my kids playing with lego sometime in the distant future, sometimes the old things are the best things.

Same. I spent thousands of hours playing with lego. It was what made me get into engineering and designing things.

Lego is great. Does anyone else remember the Aquanaut/shark sets of '95-'96, (The Aquasharks made a brief return in '98 or so Wikipedia tells me.) I loved those, I had the massive Aquanaut "Discovery Base" and the Aquashark "Deep Sea Predator". They were so cool.

i had a bucket of blocks lol, not a set, it came with green bases to build on, i once built a castle lol, then put my warhammer in it (not 40,000, the old warhammer with chaos and elfs lol, they then duked it out on my lego castle, the elfs won, but mainly because i had their mage or whatever it was called lol )

Same, I'm 15 now, I still got some Lego models of helis n stuff on display, because they took forever to build, but otherwise I don't play with them anymore.   I used to have big boxes I'd buy with 10,000 lego blocks n em, realy cheap, I'd build cities and make fights.

ah yeah I remember those! I remember I always wanted that Discovery Base set.

But still, my favorite series was Ice Planet. I had this base with a cool slider thingy that set up a missile on a launch pad, and I also had a massive spaceship. And anyone remember Spyrius? mostly black and red robots.. very cool!

And I posted the link earlier, but you guys really gotta check this site out. Has everything! http://www.bricklink.com

I had an earlier lego train track than that. It had plastic rails, and the current was carried in a metal track in between the two plastic ones.

Ah Legos.... How I love them so. I gave two contractor bags stuffed FULL with Legos to my nephews. I still have boxes of Legos sitting in my closet in addition to that.

I loved the old legos. The new ones are shit. Ive got a fuckload. Some from the old castle series which was epic, and some from the not so new castle sets, and the newer shitty ones with the rainbow fag knights, some from the aquanauts thing, some from that adventurer guy with the hat with the pyramids, dinosaurs, and china shit, a space shuttle thing, and a fuckload more I dont remember. Ive got like 50 buckets full of lego shit. Before I had internets, that was all I used to play with.

My bedroom floor cosisted of a lego city of my own creation, that was about 2x2 metres in size.  Lego makes me want to be a child again.

Dear god I have SO many legos from my past. I have them all in a box reinforced with duct tape. It weighs about 30+ pounds!!!

I found this kick ass website that actually had TONS of lego manuals online and organized so you could search by set number, then download a copy of the lego set instructions! I LOVED that site, cause I put together a lot of my old sets that I didn't have the instructions for anymore.

Anybody know of a site like this??? I can't remember what happened to it
