I found this out while searching how to speed up Firefox.

I looked at all my processes, and Firefox was hogging up 142k of my RAM. Terrible!

Easy fix?

type about:config in your Firefox address bar.
Right click anywhere and select new > integer.

Then type browser.cache.memory.capacity in the box.
Now, depending on the amount of RAM your computer has, you should choose the right amount to allocate to FireFox. 16MB is an ideal amount.
So for the value, type 16384. If you want to use 32MB if you RAM for FireFox, type 32768 as the value.

Close Firefox, and start it up again. Look at your FireFox process in task manager, and it should be using a lot less. Mine went from 142k down to 52k.

This also is a great way to load your pages faster.

How does it load the pages faster with less memory?

Weird. But it does help load pages faster.
edit: oops, it should be about:config.

No idea, but it seems to be working for me.

The key is to ignore ryan and type about:config instead.

Hm... This means that it'll dump the beginning of large/long flash movies and such, forcing you to rebuffer if you wanna watch again.

Thanks, I'll pass.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Silly Firefox, how dare it use the memory I bought for my computer. I got that for System Idle Process.

Good stuff! Maybe I'll do that for my parents' and brother's computer (my old one), but my current compy has 4 gigs of RAM, so no need to cut down firefox.
