My mic isnt work, was yesterday, its plugged in, into the back of my xfi sound card, mic is enabled, and other people can hear themselves talking in my mic. Also, when I do a mic test in game, it picks up the sounds of other people talking, but not me talking. Any ideas? Ive tried restarting computer, checked the plug on mic, etc.

PS: Game is CSS.

CSS has crappy sound detection.
Try it with Window sound recorder and see how that goes.

Are you running any noise cancellation features on your sound card?
Also to test your mic if you're running window xp then go to control panel select sound and audio device properties then click on the voice tab then click on test hardware option at bottom.
Hope that helps

You have to tell your PC where to select the input from. Probably in your sound card configuration or in the Sounds and Audio devices Advanced Properties.

Set the default properly in Windows, and it should work.

I aint seeing a test area or anything, and its telling me that all input devices into the sound card are disconnected. AKA the mic is not connected.

I have checked that about 50 times the last two days. I have tried every combination I know if having it unplugged, restart computer, then plug in, or plug it in, then turn on computer, the mics in, and restarting is not gonna help... I tried reinstalling the drivers, doesnt work either. I guess something is disabled, but I cant find what it is.

Alright, called up Xfi, they have no clue so they politely got rid of me. Mic works, tried it in other PC. Think its a problem with Vista?

start > control panel > hardware & sounds > sound

mess witht the settings under the "record" tab

maybe a stupid question, but as you were stupid enough to put the paste on the wrong side of the CPU , did you installed the proper drivers?

Not exactly sure how it is in vista but Control Panel > Sound Volume w/e > Sound Recording > Make sure microphone is selected, enable advanced controls turn off "Do not monitor".

Maybe the "do not monitor option is in Sound Playback controls. Look for it though.

I'm assuming you updated your drivers too?

So, you're in Vista, eh?

Well, do as thus:
1. Plug it in
2. Right click on the sound icon in the bottom right hand tray
3. Select 'Recording Devices'
4. Set it as default. If it's not there, PM me or someone else will help you.

if other people hear themselves talking, the the problem is with your sound card software. if you installed the xfi coontrol software, 2x click the icon in the tray. on the far right, select microphone. done.

Yeah I installed the drivers from CD, still had problem, so installed latest drivers from Xfi website, still had problem, so called up Xfi, they had no clue, so they politely hung up on me.

I clicked on Xfi icon in tray, but there is no microphone on far right.
