I got a new WD SATA HDD. The bios and the device manager will recognize it but it doesn't show up in My Computer.

right click my computer ---> manage ---> disk management ---> new partition

Control Panel --> Administration tools --> Computer Management? --> Harddrive Gestion?
(my windows is in French so I tried to translate it)
in there you should see your harddrive, just format it in NFTS or what ever it is.

I was wondering about partitioning my hard drive without putting my Windows XP disk in the drive, but I think that's the only way, right? I can't find a way to create a new partition under disk management.max wrote:

well if the HD already has a partition that spans the entire drive you can't create a new one without shrinking the old one. Best way to shrink is though Gparted which should be included in any decent linux live-cdRyan wrote:
