I think it would be the same, crazy people will still be crazy and if Islam wasn't there something else would spring up to take its place. You cannot blame one thing for the problems of the world, people will behave however they will regardless of what organization / institution they belong to.
There will always be a cause for people to hate and kill. The world would be no different.
