I have a geforce mx4000 on a windows xp os, 1.5 gigs of ram, 3100 processor, 450 watt ps, 600 g hd, all direct x files are up to date as are my video card drivers. I have installed and re-installed bf2 with 1.41 patch several times.... with firewalls on, exceptions made, antivirus off, etc. etc. etc. All I can muster out of this piece of shit is a black screen for about 2 seconds and then a kick back to windows. I'm using a secondary connection to a 2wire modem/router off of a 100mbps connection. Connection to the internet is good but the game WILL NOT LOAD! WTF is going on please help. Oh I also just got a new motherboard a month ago, MSI. PLEASE HELP ME!! I deserve to be on the field.
Try older video drivers. Yes, you heard that right. Also, a motherboard that can run a video card that old can hardly be considered 'new.'
Also, tell us if you can run single player at all, just for troubleshooting purposes. If not, try it in safe mode.

Have you played it on that computer before the new motherboard?
I had the same problem, I had to do major upgrades to get it to work.

Can you play bf2 without the patches installed?

Love is the answer
I don't think it can. Didn't read the link.[TUF]Catbox wrote:

My old MX440 couldn't run BF2. So chances are your 4000 can't either.

Yeah, I had a GeForce 4 MX. It only has half the required RAM.']['error wrote:

The motherboard was just put in and my tech guy says it will support a 8800 gt, it better I made a partial payment on it already. It also supports 2gb mem sticks so I thought it was newer. What major upgrades? I tried in device manager to upgrade the drivers individually as the update sites all say I'm good to go. Some are from 2001! I also took out my card and tried to boot up in stock mode, but it didn't work either. Haven't tried safe mode yet. How do you do that? At boot up? Never have I seen that option. I used to have an asus mobo but viruses cooked it. (thanx Kaspersky) Now I am msi. The mx4000 says it is SLI, can't I just put another one on top? Hopefully the 8800 solves all this. My friend plays on a stock e-machine with 1.5 g of ram and an ATI 200! Why does it work for him? Never played BF on my machine.RoosterCantrell wrote:

No, the same thing happens, I accidentally tried to launch it b4 I dl the patch.aimless wrote:

Do I have to dwnld 1.12 then 1.21 then 1.3 etc., etc.? Or do I just go with the 1.41? I thought the latter was true as I have seen it played like that b4. Thanks to all you guys for your help, I am going crazy. Jonesin' for Battlefield!!!!!!!!!!!1

Can't get to the account server, so I wouldn't know about Singleplayer. I used to have old drivers 2004 and it still wouldn't work.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

It's your graphics card, BF2 won't run on a MX440.
It won't run on your Graphics card.
It shows up in my easyinfo as UNKNOWN COMPATIBILITY so that would make sense. Why would a mobo that supports an 8800 not support a 4000?unnamednewbie13 wrote:

why? Isn't an ati 200 series lesser than a 4000?RDMC wrote:

As others have said in this thread, your techy is wrong. The GeForce 4 series cards will not work with BF2, and they will behave just as you've described (black screen and then back to desktop).Slothy wrote:

You need a more modern video card to run Bf2.
1st: I don't know if its better.Slothy wrote:

2nd: BF2 requires a certain clock speed/memory amount to run the game if your card doesnt have it, the game can't be started. I used to have a Geforce 4 or something TI 4500 and it wouldn't start up. I got exactly the same, the splash screen, the black screen and my desktop again. Your card just can't handle it. And really be glad, because even if it could barely run it, it wouldnt be fun because of the insane amounts of lag you'd get!

Look, it's definatly your card, here are the System Requirements:
http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/ … atures.jspSYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Windows XP (32-bit) with Admin rights
1.7 GHz Intel Celeron D / Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP/ Sempron or greater
512 MB of RAM or more
8x or faster CD/DVD drive
2.3 GB free hard drive space or more
Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible (see video)
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible (Sound Blaster X-Fi series recommended )
VIDEO
Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
ATI Radeon 8500 or greater
THANK YOU now I guess I just wait for the 8800 to be paid for, then it will be a mobo issue I'm sure! Mutherflucking technology......always a step ahead aren't they?RDMC wrote:

Unfortunatly for you yes, fortunatly for technology as we would else be stuck in time with ancient graphic cards, like yours!Slothy wrote:
