Just cause you suck at math.
Id always raise this point with the teacher, but no no no "YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOULL USE EM". Yeah, and look where fractions got you Miss -__-
Actually, I'm good at math. You suck at grammar though.=NHB=Shadow wrote:

I prefer using fractions when I can, because using decimals can cause round-off error in long calculations, especially when using a calculator.
I use both fractions and decimals. I don't really have a problem with either
If it makes math easier, go ahead and kill 'em.
Fractions are useful...I don't know what this guy is thinking.
Yeah.....you could replace them entirely with decimals and standard form tbh.
OK, if fractions are obsolete, I need you to write down the complete decimal equivalent of 1/3 or 1/6.
dots tbhIlocano wrote:

saying "one third" is better then saying "33.3 percent".
No decimals are!
We can't do away with fractions...
Honestly, you can't do physics w/out them.
*edit* - And if you do what he says and take out long division and other "useless" mathmatics then you are screwed if your comp dies on you in the middle of an important engineering solution on the field that can't the time to wait for you to go get a new one.

lol..... no more, I ate half the pie, I ate .50 of the pie
I have .25 of a tank of gas left
.50 past the monkey's balls and a .25 to his cock

Fractions are useful for mental math. They are also great when analytically solving things.nukchebi0 wrote:

He's right there.Smells Like Muff wrote:

my calculator wants to have a word with you (yes, it can talk!)Ilocano wrote:

and yeah fractions are generally easy
Yeah, when deciding how much of the pie to eat, your brain finds it much easier to interpret 1 1/8th of the pie rather than 1.125 pies.David.P wrote:

Less thinking equates to more chew time for you and the pie.
1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1HurricaИe wrote:

33.3 + 33.3 + 33.3 <> 100
But per Mek, 33.3... + 33.3... + 33.3... = 100 .

Oh damn, can you correct this for me?ThaReaper wrote:

kids should be taught both. any time you can teach someone to look at a situation or solve a problem in more than one way, it's good. by the same rationale you could say that every language but english or french of chinese should be outlawed. because one is more efficient than any other in some way.

actually fractions are really useful. in things like calculus and physics and certain parts of chemistry when you get large decimals (1.111787223278232) its really easy to screw up your rounding which can totally screw your answer. the easiest way around this is to work in fractions, as it holds the decimal in a simple denomination. this is why graphing calculators default to fractions, or so i like to think.
lol look at the picture in the article. To the right of his face you clearly see 62y over 34y. Irony ftw.
