To what extent do you customize?

I've been messing around with the registry and settings on different programs...

My Outlook, Opera, Word and IE tabs page are all examples of customization that I've been doing on my computer, along with a second workplace similar to that you can get on linux and an icon-free desktop. I have however kept the current Vista Aero, because I don't know yet how to make the more transparent version of it I found online work (putting it in the resource folder was not enough it seems).

I was wondering: how far do you go with this? How much do you customize your PCs?

Define overly customized. I customize just about every toolbar I can for convenience and space saving (I miss my old resolution of 1920x1200), and was simply getting sick of the recurring blue theme of microsoft.
I have customized a small number of keyboard shortcuts in opera for convenience, and memorized all windows shortcuts

I like to be efficient.

On Windows, I rarely customize anything but maybe the wallpaper; Either all orange or some nice picture. I put Winamp, Firefox and Show desktop in the Quick launch bar, remove the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox and place my favourite apps in the top of the Start menu.

Plus some performance tweaks here and there.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

That's about it. I would like workspaces though, it's probably the thing I miss most from Ubuntu.

I can't take obnoxious colors or flashy anything. I stick with a classic windows look, and I feel that it is clean and efficient. Of course, efficiency (in this case) is in the eye of the beholder...

I do wish I could have multiple desktops like my Fedora system at work. But every program I have used to get them in Windows has been decidedly atrocious.

Some sites require IE... Oh, and outlook came with Office - 2007 is surprisingly good (for a change)

I don't go to crazy, I patched the uxtheme.dll so i can use whatever theme, just so I can have something dark. Same with Office 2007 skins (but there is a black one by default). I prefer performance and function over novelty. I try and keep my development junk on a vm as not to taint my core system.

I'd also recommend: Newgrounds with custom chrome to stop the bookmark-bar animation..

Windows skin:
Microsoft Zune

Desktop:
Changes approx once per week or once every fourthnight...

EDIT: Yes I do in fact use windows messenger 4, It hogs ALOT less ram than Live does (and my crappy school PC only has 512
