So I work for my companys IT Dept and I today had to do a survey in all our old kit...
It turns out I have 82 old stone PC's knocking about and i was wondering what could be done with them?
The company said we in the IT Dept are welcome to them as no one wants them.
The spec on the PC's on most is:

P4 2.5ghz - 2.0
Ram 512 - 1GB
GFX: some old crapy ATI standard card.
XP Pro

I was thinking that could be quite a powerful cluster?
Not that I could bother with such a thing so I was just wondering what you guy would/could do?

I'd set up a cluster somehow, then set them all to use Folding @ Home 24/7.

Or just take them all to a shooting range / chemistry lab making thermite / Fort Knox for tank practice.

They are all marked with our company logo to prevent theft but they are willing to write we a letter stating the serials of the units like they have in the past for other projectors and other stuff that I have been allowed.

I'd eBay most of them and keep one or two around for emergencies (main pc exploding etc) and a media centre/file server.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Im not in the workshop for a while now but if they are still there I will see what I can do....

At a guess the HD's would be anything from 20 - 80GB and the RAM x2 256 - 512MB Max.
We dont use the HD's we store every thing on our servers (shared drives)
