Hey guys

Just wanted to gbet your thoughts on this :

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5450 (1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache) [Included in Price]

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache) [add £79.99 or £2/month1]

It's the CPU selection for an M1530 I will most likely be buying from dell in a few months time but wanted to know if the increase in CPU power is proportionate to the seemingly expensive (imo) upgrade.

Is the increase in 340Mhz worth £80 for a laptop which will be used mainly for pretty light working and maybe some casual gaming?

Cheers

I can get you a 16% discount from Dell... Get the T7250.

PM me if interested....

for casual gaming and light work stuff then id probly keep the £80 but that discount will be worthwhile

Well I'm unsure still ... also will the CPU power affect battery life?

Not really since they set them in yield accounts based on how many GHZ can they run based on the same TDP.

Newer CPU = Lower power consumption/performance rate, so actually: no

That has to do with the architecture. These are both the same generation and stepping. It would propably affect it, but only with about 10 minutes or so.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

So as long as it's a new CPU, ie. the T2750 the power consumption will be less?

Edit : also i meant to say powerful CPU rather than newer. Ie. will those two cpus use the same power or will the t2750 use more ... ?

T7200 in mine, almost 2 hours of full blown activty (surfing web, running a vm) on a fresh battery. Just get the fastest now, since u typically will never upgrade a laptop.

Also, are the laptops on dell likely to decrease in cost gradually or will they be the same price in 6 months time?

T2750 will most likely use more power than a T7xxx

BTW: T2750 is so old, don't even think about it...

afaik

M1530 or possibly M1330 is what I'm after .... hopefully we'll get some sorta LAN going in the 6th form common room, and I have to have the best looking game and so the 1530 is most likely ... it's cheaper too!

I'm just scared that prices will start @ ~£1000 compared to the XPS M1330's ~£700

I'm in <3 with the Lattitude E,, at least untill I see the price, if they have aimed it at business use, it will cost a fortune

The 15/1330 are really cheap in comparison with other competitors of similar style/specs on the market ...

Yeah, and afaik they were the first to come with LED screens (1330)... which I would so like to have, lower power consumption and more light

Think it's about £50 more for the LED screen on the M1330, cos it's not available with the 1530 ... though the 1530 still gets 3 1/2 hrs battery life from the 9 cell!

In which way bert? The newer, more powerful cpu's use less?

More powerful (typically higher clocked and with more cache - because running stably at high clocks and powering large caches uses more power) CPUs of the same family use more power.

but the extra power from the CPU is better than the extra battery used by it?
