Presidents (especially US President) have an insane amount of security. JF&K got shot cos he was carting around in a convertible like a lunatic.
If he wins the candidacy and then the presidency he should make sure he has somebody like a representative from the Westboro Baptist Church as his VP so no-one will want to assassinate him.

Not impossible, just impossible to carry out and not get caught. There are times when you could get within an effective firing range of the President.
