KK guys, I've built my new pc and I tried to start it. It turns itself off. I always come to the mainboard menu and a bit, and then it turns off.

I need things that could be wrong, it's the first time I've build a pc so yeah...

Suggestions:

nukchebi0: You need new thermal paste. I say: No, I've talked to a specialist and he said the pc would only turn off after a few minutes, and not after a few secs.

phetal: i once had some cable plugged in backwards... apparently that can happen... I say: and which one would let me turn the pc on and turn itselfoff?

Your cooler is propably off. Or you've shorted something. Or your PSU is bad.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I'm guessing your PSU is bad too.

Do you have another one, you could use temp.

And unplug all absolutely un-needed peripherals and try again.

That's where I would start.

-Plug in you 20+4 or 24 pin connector in your motherboard
-Plug your 4-pin Molex in you motherboard
-Plug you 4-6- or 8-pin connector in you motherboard
-Make sure you cables outside you PC arent touching each other or strangled up
-Make sure you PSU meets all the requirements, a 300W PSu wont handle a 8800GTS/GTX/GT/GS or 2900XT/Pro/GT or even 3870/3850

There is probaly something wrong with your BIOS settings. If possible, when the "Mainboard menu" shows up press the button that leads you in your BIOS. The button is on of the F buttons, refer to the screen or the motherboard manual for the right one.
When your comp is not dying while you´re in the BIOS setup try to take picture.

Other than that :

All fans connected ?
RAM in the right slots ?
Check every cable connection again and again and again. Sometimes it´s just one little cable connected the wrong way.
Do you get a "check sound" (Beep) when you start up the comp ?

2 easy mistakes, forgot the CPU power cable, or possibly the graphics card power cable.

As has been said, could be a crap PSU.

Could be a frequency problem, either CPU or RAM overclocked for some odd reason, that's really unlikly on a fresh build though.

kk guys, my psu has 600w.

I got the thermal paste now, should I put it on it. How do I get the old paste away?

All cables are plugged, maybe I should take it out and put it in again. Could my cpu be fucked?

And no, my pc never had a beep at the start, it beeps if it shuts down.

Check your speaker connection again. If you realy get no beep, it´s either the CPU or the power supply, as far as I know.

Well, a working board isn't even supposed to beep, beeps are error signals.

That is news to me. Normally, it gives a short beep to confirm succsessful booting.

We ARE on topic ! Like i said, if your speaker is connected and you don´t get a beep at start, either you CPU or the power supply is fuxxed.
