So I'm trying to get a new laptop for college/gaming...3 questions:

1. Is this a good rig for $700-$800?

Yeah, because it seems a little overpriced (that's what I've heard)

2. Any other good gaming laptop sites around (preferable in $500-$800 mark)..and preferably legal lol.

3. Would the rig (above) run BF2 on high?

Seems ok if you take the best of the CPUs.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The 7600 Go isn't really a good card, but it could probably run BF2 on Medium settings.

At $800, it'll be fairly difficult to find a decent rig.

I'd suggest the Dell Inspiron 1520 with Dell Coupons, but Dell in it's infinite wisdom, axed it and decided to replace it with a slimmer notebook (which is nice) but with only the option of Integrated Graphics. So at this point, if you want a decent dedicated graphics card, look at the Dell Vostro 1500. Starts at $600, already has two gigs of RAM, and has the 8400m GS. You can configure it up to a 8600m GT for $100 more which is significantly better than the 8400m or the 7600 Go. Keep in mind that this price comes after a $300 discount and I'm unsure on how long this discount will go, so if you need a notebook soon now might be a good time to get it.

You can upgrade the GPU (to the 8600m GT) and Processor (to the T7250) for an extra $230 making the total $830. It'll play most modern games relatively well ('cept Crysis for obvious reasons).

Can the 8400 run BF2 on high (with 2 gig ram, of course)?
But any other sites than Powernotebooks.com that got better laptops?

Giving it that the 8600GT for stationary computers is about as powerful as a 7600GT, imagine what the 8400GS is like.

The 7600 Go is better than the 8300/8400 cards. By far.

You're right, the 7600 Go is slightly better than the 8400m GS. But the point I'm trying to make is that for $100 more from the starting price of $600, you can upgrade to the 8600m GT which is significantly better than either the 8400m GS or the 7600 Go.

And what's wrong with Dell or Intel? Intel is currently the leader in Processors whether in Desktops or Notebooks. And Dell may not make the best looking notebooks, but they're very nicely specced, have decent build/quality, and all at a relatively cheap price.

Powernotebooks.com to my understanding sells mostly Sager notebooks branded with their name. Sagers are nice, but mostly just their high end stuff. Plus, by purchasing that notebook you'd be paying for the last generation, when the Dell that I pointed out is loads better (albeit one or two customizations) at a comparable price.

Edit: Furthermore, there are no mobile 8300 cards.

Yes it does run BF2 all high 1280x800, to all you non believers.
