Take a look at IE7. It has a Phishing filter, too.

i dont run any protection and i use firefox ONLY, and i dont get viruses.
i once used IE for about 10 minutes and had shit poping up, IE was always running, i would get popups randomly from IE when FF is my default browser, even when i wasnt on the net.
it was aggrivating
Stop going to seedy websites. I use IE7 along with Windows Defender (not that it ever really catches anything, but it's good for real-time protection) and Symantec Anti-Virus (also great for real-time) and I don't get viruses or random pop-ups. Maybe if you kept your Windows OS updated at the same time, you wouldn't get raped by the Internet.

I can't really explain the whole hype and circle jerk about firefox, my eyes weren't blown away the first time I used it.
There is a lot of cool stuff you can do with it especially the add-ons and various themes.

My advice is just stick with firefox for a few days see if your opinions change. The new internet explorer is pretty good though it now has tab's
The new IE? Dude, IE7 has been out for like two years - before Vista even came out. And how does your browser break? Are you retarded?

I hate Firefox's tabbing. I do open my homepage to get to my email at Gmail or read the newest headlines. OR! TO SEARCH ON GOOGLE! What a thought ... Firefox's entire toolbar takes up too much room on my screen (using a notebook; I miss my PC) compared to IE7. And once again, IE7 looks better with it's tabbing and is much more fluid. My tabs don't open to about:blank, they open to iGoogle.

If the coolest thing about Firefox is that it can change colors, big fucking whoop.

Basically if you want to: have the addons; change the way it all looks; visit the types of sites with tons of adverts and viruses; visit sites developed more for FF than IE; need a better phishing filter because you cant tell its not really your bank etc???; then FF is the much better choice. If not then FF2 and IE7 are very much a like these days.

By visit sites developed for FF....you mean, visit sites developed with 100% correct code? Yeah, thought so.

When you have to specifically include different CSS or use hacks to make stuff work for IE, that's when you know it sucks.

But yeah, Firefox is old. The best browser is Microsoft Firefox, IMO.

Besides, what does it matter, I have 2GB of RAM just sitting there ...

What's funny is that people keep bringing this up. I renamed the firefox window and set FF to an IE6 theme and arranged icons, just to further prove that people couldn't really tell the difference between FF and IE.

Firefox > All browsers because of its customization. You can get any extensions and any themes you want to do millions of things. Thats why it beats all other browsers.

If you're going to use vanilla FF than just stick with IE6/7.  It's the extensions that make FF way better than IE7.  Mouse gestures, Google Preview, virtual browser, autospell checker, are just some of the bare minimum a FF user should have.  you don't use any of that or any other extensions, stick with IE7 since it would use less RAM.

That's just not true.  I use IE7, and I have an adblocker, an FF-like download manager, spell checker, mouse gestures, etc...  There are also userscripts that can be implemented (greasemonkey-esque) and loads of other features.

And to whoever said that FF doesn't use a lot of RAM, what was that about all the memory leaks in FF2?

So am i understanding you correctly here, you made you firefox look like your IE to see if people could tell the difference, well firefox passed the test then, because it looks the same as the dull, ugly IE that you use, well done.

You don't get memory leaks if you don't paste crap to it. And without all the addons and bloat, you use less memory than IE.

Also, it's less happy to dump my login cookies at a moment's notice. You can clear the history with only a few clicks, as opposed to going through the options menu of IE. It lacks some of the features of IE, like the remindy thing for multiple tabs, new tabs opening to google, and my handy-dandy toolbar of googleness, but it doesen't break after a certain amount of use.

Lol @ all the firefox/IE fanboys.

I use firefox simply because IE actually broke and FF is reliable.  Infact, my father was lucky that i had installed firefox onto his laptop.  IE decided to update one day and was completely unusable; wouldnt display anything, and the only way to fix it was to reinstall.  Kinda impossible when you only have 1 browser...that was until i showed him what i put on.

Aside from that, i actually see no difference between to 2. Until today all i had used was stock FF (just put in a theme), and aside from aesthetic qualities, operating was effectively the same.  Im indifferent to Ads and the google toolbar does a good enough job at blocking popups, the rest dont interest me, are unnecessary, or dont seem effective.

TL;DR fanboys calm down. If you dont have a theme there is no difference.

If you purposely set FF to look the same as IE, then we aren't going to be able to tell any difference through a visual medium. Your test didn't prove anything, other than Firefox is customizable.

Sounds like there is something wrong with your PC or your firefox install,,,

For the record, my firefox uses 58 mb ram with two tabs and I have TONS of addons, some of which, are ram hoggers....
IE7 uses 50 mb ram also with two tabs, and don't compare Firefox to IE6, because I'd bet that I could find a browser for windows 3.1 that uses less ram than IE, don't compare with old software plx...
