Hey, I was wondering what the necessary internet speed one would need to play bf2 smoothly?

Any ideas?

1 mbps is enough, given you live close enough to the server.

256k up here, but yeah, I got a shitty ping with shitty hitreg (nearest servers are 2000+ km away from me)

90 ping is the max you ever go, some will say 70

i start getting lag around 110, not all the time, but enough to make it "not smooth"

Under 100 = Smooth
Over 100 = Unsmooth
Over 200 = wtfiheadshotyou10timesbutyoudontdie

I used to be able to play fine on smallband (which is 64k or so) with a ping of ~20.

No, you didn't.

My old connection was 256/256, and it would give me ok-ish pings on nereby servers. My older ISDN would make it unplayable, though. 512/512 is more than enough.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

How about you learn decent english before blabbering like that?
I'm just telling you how it was. I was amazed too, but it worked.

BF2 on 56k, gimme a break!

That's complete and utter bullshit. A 256k uplink struggles with BF2, an ISDN 128k makes it unplayable, imagine what less than a half ISDN would do.

Maybe singlelayer.

I must agree on that.

For fuck's sake people. It worked. I don't know how. Perhaps it was a glitch on my ISP's part that didn't throttle all data to smallband.
And no, it most definitely wasn't singleplayer.

I can run it fine on a 384/128 connection.

Actually, it was a Germanic language before it ever made it to Britain.

Get yourself some common sense

I'm just telling what I know from experience...

And for all I care you could be talking Japanese. It'd still not improve communication.

Yes, 128 up is all ok, but under 256kbit down, and it won't play very well.

Wow at everyone who thinks >100 is bad. I don't notice any difference between an 80 ping and 160 ping server connection.

You need at least 220 to actually have problems.

160 assrapes me. 130 is the highest i can get without problems.

maybe your computer has poor performance and that makes up the difference?

I have an E6750, 4GB of RAM, and an 8800GTS 512. The computer's performance isn't a problem.

It may be that I am so used to it that is doesn't bother me anymore. My friend, forced to play modern games with an AGP 6600 and P4 at 2.53 Ghz, can play fine at framerates I can't live with.
