I got an Acer Aspire 5100. 2 gb ram and the graphics card is an ATI mobility radeon x1300. Dual core processor (something like it).

Now, I just installed XP on it and tried to play BF2. Haven't played for ages. Some rounds on Wake went very well, then suddenly I get lag. At first it is not much, then gets worse and after 30-60 seconds it goes away. Everything is going just fine, then comes the lag. Same thing: not that much, then worse. So much that I can't really do much.

What I'm wondering about is: why is it happening? Is it a simple answer like "my computer is too bad to be used for BF2" or something else? Can't be that, since every now and then it goes smoothly. It was the same thing on Vista.

Anyone got any ideas?

I just installed XP. I had the same issues on Vista as well.. irritating!

I'm guessing that x1300 is using system RAM, so it's probably just cacheing textures which will be choppy and slow when using DDR instead of GDDR, it should steady out after a min or so, might stutter every now and then if it has to load a new texture but that's all.

Is it fps lag or connection lag?

And did you disable all services running your anti-virus software? Also make sure you only have necessary programs running XP, anything else disable. i.e. Windows auto-update, etc. Might be PB doing an auto check to see if you are up to date.
