Abuse of the system by the "haves" far outweights abuse of the system by the "have-nots".

so its ok for people on welfare right now to go clog up hospitals, but it wont be ok for people who are generally sick all the time to go in but cant because its too expensive. If hospitals do get overcrowded im sure every state in the nation will be jumping at the chance for a fat federal contract to build another newer higher tech, better equiped for more people one.

not much you can do really, there is only so much money. but if they are taking money out of our wages to pay for hospitals and care, they would kind of be forced to spend it on such

you know whats funny.  all this disdain for the poor trying to improve their lives.   people dont realize youre paying for universal healthcare when you send people to prison.

We should just put everyone in prison.  It solves so many problems with such ease.  No worry about gas or war for oil, no worry about healthcare, no worry about big brother.  The biggest concern would be having enough deoderant for some pruno and enough junk food for spread.

yeah i believe that was brought up in the movie that no one here wants to watch because it is considered Michael Moore propaganda, but damnit its the truth. Must be nice to be the number 1 terrorist and get round the clock healthcare whenever you need it

Medicare right now is a mini-UHS system. If they are clogging up the hospitals, just think how much they will be over crowed if the whole US was covered.

Don't make me laugh, you paycheck is already garnished by SS to "support" you when you are older, but you will not get as much money back as you put in. Why? Since SS is a pyramid scheme you'll only get a fraction of what you put in, and on top of that the government is dipping into SS for other things other then your welfare. But that's another topic.

What's funny is if the US government ran prisons like other countries in the world run theirs' we would probably cut costs in half.

It is impossible for me to fathom why people don't understand that the current system is a government run system, in a sense. If you think that having a private-insurance company provide your benefits (and the insurance company is regulated by government rules) is not a government instituted system - you aren't really thinking about this idea thoroughly. There is no real way in a modern world that a modern government can ever be entirely hands-off. So, why do you think the current system of: haves and have-nots - this current system (enforced by gov. laws and regulations) is a good way to pay for it?

The main reason it cost so much (IMO) is the following:
1.) Middlemen must make money.
2.) Everyone does not participate (pay).
3.) The biggest reason (IMO) is structure of care. Most people simply do not need: hospital care, emergency care, care by a physician. What they need is basic care. Something physicians assistants, Nurse practitioners, RNs, Midwives, etc can provide.

Until you have affordable basic care you don't really have a good system (IMO).

I think it would just make your immigration problem worse. It's why everyone always comes here, and this place is a small island. Now with you guys and your non-existent gigantic land borders...

Example. For me, I hardly use the hospital or anything *touch wood* - So my rate at a private place would be quite low. Reflecting on the fact that I never really have to use hospital services. Now with NHS, even though I hardly use it. I still have to pay a good amount towards it. Which I don't like.

Tbh.

I only want to pay for shit when I use it.

It never works that way for most anything (or mostly everything else)...

Why not skip paying for public schools you don't use, the tank you've never ridden in, the roads you don't drive or highways you will never use, the fireman who don't come to your house (because it's not burning!), the bridge you never crossed, the police that you don't care about when you don't need their service, etc, etc, etc...

some of the people on here dont realize that people from the US, one of the most developed countries in the world, i might add, leave the country to go elsewhere to get medical procedures done because it is too expensive here.  This is called a 'Medical Vacation' if you dont believe it, google it

That is because ALL of those things have social benefits.  No free market would ever produce enough of those goods and services by individuals.  That is why the government steps in.

Health care--the question we should be asking is, "Can a free-market healthcare system function efficiently?"  Then, we can look into whether a socialized program is necessary or whether there are better alternatives.

Two different arguments.  First you imply universal healthcare would not have social benefits, then state an absurd belief that police, fire authority, military, transportation, etc.  institutions are somehow incapable of inefficiency.

Normally for elective/cosmetic surgery. Not a really strong argument for UHS.
