I like a heavy mouse and a bigger one than the Razors as have long fingers. G5 fits perfect in my hand and I have all the heavy weights in the bottom so i love it.

Zomg laser 518 FTMFW! The one reason i took the 518 over the G5 was the 2 side buttons and the slicker feel, this fixes all of that.

Assuming i cant find this in stores, know any place in Canada that still sells 518's? Incase this one breaks.

I tried using a Razer diamondback, and the side buttons on the opposite side dug into my ring finger, and correct me if im wrong but i saw no instant DPI change buttons.
The new G5 (the blue one) has 2 side buttons.  I use the larger button as "3" to switch between single fire or burst/auto.  But I'm planning to get that Saitek for that 4-way hat-switch.  I use the Nostromo N52 instead of my keyboard, and the N52 control-pad is useful for macros like spin-proning and speed-proning.

Razers are too small and too flat. The G5 fits my hand like a glove.

Keep in mind, the On-the-fly DPI switching is totally customizable in the software. You can have 5 different levels of custom sensitivity ranging from 400DPI (slow) to 2000DPI (fast). And it has a little LED indicator on the mouse to tell you what level you're on.

And then you got the weights, to make it heavier or lighter depending on your preference. I usually have all the heavy weights in but I recently took them all out, and I'm liking it.

The G5 also has a left/right scroll, which I'm not sure if the razer has. I could not live without these two extra buttons.

You actually want to turn down the in-game sensitivity, but that's kind of a hassle if you're not a dedicated sniper or something. If you are a sniper though, you just put the sensitivity to something you like while keeping the DPI at 2000.

The G5 is really good, it fits perfectly in your hand and the billions of buttons come in usefull D:
Can't say I like the weights though, I like a light mouse so I can move fast, but I can see where you're coming from
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

It pwns, metal scroll wheel, two progammable side buttons, and you can record macros on it!
Plus, it has also on-the-fly DPI switching, plus a little LCD screen which tells you what DPI you're using, and shows your macro programming.
Also, an included anchor (no more cables all over the place), and a weight rack which you can customize.

When you jump out the tank just press the button on top to turn the DPI down?

The G5 2007 edition is almost perfect, and in any case the best mouse out there. Why? let me sum it up:

-smooth

there are teflon pads on the bottom.

-comfortable

perfect size, shape, and weight. It's light but you can increase the weight if you want at any time.

-texture

the blue lines are actually grooves, and the texture is a smooth. Doesn't make you sweat, doesn't get hot, feels nice.

-performance

not much to say, the G5 does nothing wrong. DPI doesn't make a difference. Also, 1000hz refresh makes it slightly smoother

-functionality

It has one useless button less than the mx518 (the one by the scrollwheel, which i found to be impossible to use quickly in games). The scroll wheel is good, unlike the original G5 this one is well-defined, so you will never accidentally scroll. Clicking without scrolling is now easy, and sidescrolling works well. Also, the two main buttons themselves click nicely.

In short, I don't see myself using a different mouse for a very long time.

Also, couple it up with a steelpad 5L or something along those lines.

Because after 3 months anything made by microsoft tends to blow up, leaving you without an appendage. No, software doesnt count, how the hell does something with no physical body blow up.

I'd agree with that ususally, with XP as proof. However, this thing is so far gr8, no hassles, took me about 2 minutes to install drivers, etc. to get it running. If it does blow up, I'll have warranty, plus a lawsuit. So I'm covered

Absolutely. I tried the G5 at the ESWC 2007, and didn't like the layout of the buttons.

sort of agreed, in most games there are enough keys at your disposal to stop you from needing the extra ones on your mouse, but in a few games they're really useful. in BF2 I had the first thumb button set to map and the second to zoom map, saved me from getting RSI due to having to stretch my hand out to reach M a hundred times a day (It seriously made my hand hurt badly after a while )
