when i play back the video's that i record all i get is really loud static but the video is fine, it will sometimes work like 1 out of 20 times, also if i am having a call on xfire with a friend it will usually record it perfectly, but it lags more and it uses up more quota and is a plain waste of time.

is there anyway to fix this?
yes it is a torrented version coz the same thing happend with the demo and it also happens on this other one i used.

Using XP?

Double click the "Volume" thing in the system tray, go to Options > Properties and tick "recording". In "Show the following volume controls" if "Stereo mix" is not ticked, tick it. The others don't matter but keep them ticked anyway. Hit "Ok" and then click the "select" tickbox under Stereo Mix. Try that.

Fraps still records bad quality sound however.

Try reinstalling fraps. The files might be corrupted.

try ticking off record sound on Movies section, but you may not get sound, or do what obiwan suggested.

also the sound only stuffs up on playack so i can mute it when editing anyway, so that doesnt make a differece

Sounds and Audio Devices > Sound Recording > Stereo Mix 'enabled', turn the volume really really low, like one tick above off.
