Today i installed Vista Home Premium on my computer and everything works fine its just the fact that i cant connect to the internet. On xp all i would have to do was plug in an ethernet cable and i had internet. Now its not working. I tried restarting my router and modem unpluging it all and everything but nothing seems to work! Help please?
Call your ISP and tell them you are unable to connect, after changing OS. They usually walk you through afew steps and get it working again.
Maybe Vista thinks teh internet is danger.
Check to see if it isn't that gay built in firewall.

you might have already done this but the simplest thing you can check is, start-network-network and sharing center-diagnose and repair, might give you some info
can u dos it in vista? might want to bust out the cmd to the ipconfig on that mofo.
It says i have an unidentafiable network. How do i get it to reconinze it and use it?
Are your NIC drivers installed?

I went to Vista Ultimate 64-bit about 2 months ago when I built my new pc, I tried doing an upgrade from my previous XP Pro but nothing worked properly. The best thing to do is, make a backup of all of your data (or use a new hard drive) and install Vista as a clean installation. Once you have done this then either slave the old drive or the backup of your data into the system and copy all of your essential data over (favs, pics, movies, game files, p0rn, you get the idea...).
Let me know if I can be of any assistance...

It's vista 32 bit not 64
It doesn't matter.NeXuS4909 wrote:

If you think about it all you've done is move the XP drivers over to Vista, its obviously not going to work for everything. Just download the appropriate drivers and away you go.

Eh i gawtz a new problem. When i put in the disk and go to install the drivers, theres a message in place of where the drivers should be "Detect No Proper Item" Whats that mean?
We had this problem on out laptop, burn everything you want to keep (Music/porn etc.) and do a complete system re-install....well thats what we did, but surely there's an easier way
How old is the modem and disc, if they're older than Vista they wont have the right drivers.NeXuS4909 wrote:

Its better to get a USB drive or DVD and burn the drivers to that off the internet on another computer.
I know its a bitch.

This will work as well... but again I tried all of this and I strongly urge you to just do a clean installation of Vista and create a backup of your data to a dvd, external drive... or something!buLLet_t00th wrote:

A clean install will allow all your applications, drivers, EVERYTHING to be installed properly and use the correct methods set aside for Vista. Right now what you are running is more along the lines of having a Pontiac Fiero with a body kit that makes it look like a Ferrari.
If you need a place to upload some files to back them up let me know and I will get you log-ins to one of my servers and hook you up with some space.
Trust me... doing it this way will increase your overall Vista experience and performance.

I've installed my drivers and everything, and everything works just fine but the internet it still messed up. It says its connected to an unidentifiable network and it cant diagnose the problem. Yes my LAN drivers are updated. There has to be an easier way of fixing this than doing a complete reinstall of vista.
And if this helps this was under connection properties
