What a difference a few fans make.  I got drops of 5C CPU, 4C PWMIC, 16C CHIPSET and 7C GPU.  No pics of the GPU though .  It used to idle at 45C but now idles at 38C.

Before and after temps at idle:
https://img125.imageshack.us/img125/9905/tempsbeforeafterpw3.png

Changes made:
  • Stock chipset fan replaced with Evercool VC-RE
  • Added Antec PCI slot 15CFM intake fan under GPU.
  • Replaced CPU panaflo fan w/ identical one w/ an RPM sensor on it (X at end of model#)
  • Moved top exhaust fan to different header (not PWMIC) since it doesn't cool that part I didn't need to know it's RPMs (may add a specific one for that region later)
  • Cleaned all intake filters, fans and CPU heat sink - all had a lot of dust after 2 years use.
Could possibly be better if I didn't add 3 more hard drives right in front of my case's front intake fans.  The 3 new drives are all 7200 rpm so hopefully not too hot under load, though the WD Raptor next to them gets warm.

"After" temps taken at ambient temp of 69F.  "Before" temps taken at an ambient temp of 73F.  Once it warms up again I expect it'll add a few C to my temps above.

The chipset temps were probably most affected by the increased RPMs of the new fan and perhaps more importantly, I think the old fan was failing at the time I took the "before" pic.  I think that helps explain why it was so high to begin with.

It was highly stressful changing out that stupid fan.  I haven't had my machine gutted like that since I put it together.  I wish I'd done it at that time instead.

Overall I'd say it was worth the effort though, especially considering that the chipset fan was making a hell of a racket and certainly going to fail very soon anyway.

i also added 2 fans today. temp of the gfx card dropped 10c, cpu and raptor 5c.

Good to hear, but that's a pretty obvious statement to be honest.

I can't wait until I get my new hole drilled in my computer's side. Then I'll have two 120mm fans on the side
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Sounds like manual fan controller.

4-5v and it's dead silent.

I wish I had a fan, my graphic card doesn't have one. So when I play BF2 it sometimes freezes or becomes black!

I got myself this: http://www.dragonsteelmods.com/index.ph … mitstart=2
and I don't notice any difference if I put the fans on max or low.

Well, then, either your fans are shit, or the controller is broken.

There's a certain differance between 500RPM and 3000RPM.

Yeah, his fans are shit because he can't hear them... that's logical.

I can't tell the difference between my Zalman CNPS9500 on high/low, and I can't tell the difference between my Zalman Vf900 on high/low, does that mean these fans are shit too?

ffs i spend 15€ per fan! and its not some no name brand. they are good, thats why i dont hear them. its possible you will hear the 500rpm vent but not the 3000 one. why? cos the first one is a cheap vent for 2 € and the second one is a low bearing fan for 20€.

Oh, you can't hear them much on either? In that case.

I thought you heard the fans roar on high and low, as if they'd be at the same RPM. You made it sound like that.

I had to turn my zalman all the way down; at it max it was very loud.

I added a little 40mm fan to my northbridge today. Finally no more temps in the 60. Also put a 120mm fan infront of the gfx cards. Nice drop in temps there too

I added two fans in the front of my case blowing towards the GPU card at the bottom.  There is a slot fan exhaust underneath it, but it wasn't doing much because no cool air was coming in.  Thanks to the two new 80mm fans, my ambient temps down there dropped from around 90+F to 65+F.  (Yeah I'm too lazy to change it to Celcius and it keeps changing back anyway)  Amazing, huh?  I was able to OC the card even more after that.  What a difference ambient temp makes - I was looking at just the GPU core temp.  The cooler ambient temps enabled me to OC the vRAM more.

What CPU cooler do you have? and what CPU and what speed?
Oh, and while you're at it: what GPU's and custom coolers? and temps?

I'm planning on buying a new CPU cooler to replace my "blue orb", my E6600 is running on 2.8 ghz (59 C on full load with orthos).
I'm also planning to buy a 8800GT with a zalman cooler on it. So your information would help me allot .
Air circulation in my case is ok, ! case in the front, 1 on the back and one on top of my case.
