I got to thinking last night after ATG's post about the problem with immigration and how these illegals like to be paid in "Cash" and i got to thinking about, what would happen if we just stopped printing the stuff and went to a debit system.
No more drug transactions, no more shady deals. Everything will have an electronic trail that can be easily traced.

Currently i hardly carry any cash in my wallet. I use my debit card for everything, even my tax refunds are coming back direct deposit. Everything i have ever gotten paid for, our boughten is kept track of electronically through my bank.

Think about what this would do to drug dealers and Illegals. No more getting paid in Cash.

The state of Virginia stopped issuing checks for unemployment, now they only issue debit cards and direct deposit into bank accounts.

Take all the people that work for the treasury and put them into a new job that looks into auditing bank accounts to make sure their customers arent abusing the system in anyway.  People who open and close accounts at high rates will be a red flag.

almost everyone in my town has a credit card/debit readers at all the stores, they cant cost that much, and if they did the govt could issue them, shit with all the money twe could save from not printing bills they could get some kind of new National Debiting System.

What if America Discontinued making "Cash": In Communist heaven I would assume this is a very good idea (standard practice even).

You want someone to provide you a link to a prostitute who accepts credit? Why? Are you lonely or something and low on cash?

Well man drug transactions and shady deals, i.e. illegal aliens working for income, would not stop because of a lack of a cash system. I dont have any links right at this moment, but credit card fraud has increased exponentially in the last few years. I think its great, and its mighty convenient to have just carry plastic and check and balance everything when you get home, but I believe in cash. Not credit. Credit is something made up based on your buying and repayment ability to a huge system that is not regulated. I say fuck credit.  The US Constitution gives me the right to not have anyone knowing what i do with all of my finances. Yes, I pay takes and the IRS knows what my income is annually, but they have no right or business what I do with it. Period.

not credit, debit

its like signing a check

but your right, if anyone ever got a hold of my debit card i would be fucked, i check it daily, but then again, if someone stole my check book i would be fucked too

a no cash system would hinder drug dealers beyond belief, thats all they deal with

Ok, debit is different from credit, but I know what you were saying. debit card is same as cash... Again I don't want the logs of my daily (financial) life viewable to people that I don't know... Know what I mean?

And most likely in the event your debit card or check book was lost or stolen, most US banks will immediately stop all transactions and refund or credit you if there is fraudulent activity, so again I agree it is a good system. I only use my debit card if i have to use it, like for online purchases, etc.

Teflon said exactly what I was thinking during the entire post... just beat me to it. Anyone that thinks this is a good idea is well... NOT in love with their amendments.

Or possibly Canadian!

this would help curb illegal immigrants and Americas drug problem

Imagine, what are thieves going to get for stealing? Nothing....no more cash

so you would rather have illegal immigrants and have crime and drugs then let people access your bank account after you have been flagged as doing something shady

I think that the gov't wouldn't admit it, but cash helps the economy. . .  What I mean is, there are millions of business owners who take cash out of their business.  This money they HAVE to spend, they can't put it in the bank because it has to be untraceable.  Undoubtedly, billions of dollars every year is transacted between people, tax-free, and keeping the economy going.

Ugh, no.

My reasoning is the can of worms you open when you get rid of "Cash" completely.

Terrible idea.  People have the right to pay in the easy way possible.  By issuing debit cards, you'd basically give the government the ability to control who gets cash or cutting people off at the drop of a hat.

Two more reasons why we need and have a cash system:
  • Us Currency is the most widely and known currency on the planet. True the value has dropped in recent years, it's still the might greenback.
  • Flame all ya want, but there will be some successful attack on our ecommerce databases, etc. If the Db that stores all of the info about your account is offline, you have no "cash" to get with your "debit card" or a check. GG, your fucked

probably, not to mentions all the drugs and prostitutes the senators are doing.

Also, all the worry about amendments and privacy, isnt that what happens when the IRS audits you?

Let's just rename President to King while we're at it?

I have used my debit card in Mexico and Canada, it automatically transfers the difference for you, no more going to currency exchange

If we moved to a nationwide debit card or multiple Db's so its not offline, but in any event if that did happen

you show your drivers license
you give them the card, they write down all your numbers

system comes back online, or power restored, viola they debit your card

im not saying cash will be totally gone, you will stilll have it, banks will still accept it, but it will not be given out, or made
think of all the money over seas just sitting there not doing anything i.e. saddams stash

shit, it would probably cause a buying frenzy and the value of the dollar would skyrocket
