I know I have posted negative comments about powerline Ethernet adapters before, but I recently found Net Gears HD ethernet adapter (HDX101), which aparantly can give you speeds of upto 200 Mbps, so I decided that I had to try it. It cost me a fortune (350 bucks), but i was actually surprised at how well it worked!

But first, I have to add that you should do some research on you electrical circuits in your home. We have recently renovated the house, with a new electrical circuit. The circuit where my router is is from the original house (110 years old). Inside this room, the speeds were around 190 Mbps. However, when I moved to another room, it dropped to around 4. But when I moved the adapter that was plugged into the router to another room, it jumped back up to 170 - enough for high def video streaming.

So, old circuit -> old circuit = good, new -> new = very good, old -> new, bad.

But once you get that fixed up, it's extremely easy to set up. Simpky plug one adapter to a power circuit and router, and the other one to a power circuit and PC/game console/whatever, and you're good to go!

Now, to test my biggest nightmare - getting internet to my basement w/ xbox (40 meters + one story down): plug adapter into socket and router, run down and plug the other adapter into socket and xbox, wait 30 seconds, internet! 32 mbps. Not blazing speeds, but stable! Have tested it a lot for 2 days, and haven't had a single ping/lag spike!

This beats wireless big time.
