i imagine it's easier for schools in texas to find spanish language teachers than it is to find japanese or finnish language teachers.
I strongly oppose Spanish!
I want Dutch to be your second language.

And I guess that the pupils would be more interested in a language that is spoken in their state and south of it (if they go to vacation there).
I don't know how your educational system works, some more informations could help us understand how the teachers are chosen, by who ,....
i kind of think it's bull. i didn't mind being required to learn another language, but being forced to learn spanish is stupid. i can see why they are pissed off. i would be.
I am confused. When I was in high school, we had to take a second language. I took Spanish. I failed it, but was no big deal since I played football.
So how is this something new? I had to take it back in the early 90's.

They have to take Spanish, they don't have a choice in the matter as to what language they want to learn.usmarine wrote:

I think they're complaining because they have no choice. who wants to learn spanish when portugese is so much more exciting?
Well my choice was French or Spanish. I mean, not really a choice tbh.jason85 wrote:

Or anything else for that matter. Spanish is boring. I didn't learn a damn thing when I took it.Reciprocity wrote:

I would have probably taken French if I had the choice. Then you can talk to chicks and they will be in love with you, lol.usmarine wrote:

Texan's just don't want someone to tell them they suck in another language.
lol, we have to learn 3 new languages here, English, Danish and German/French/Spanish plus of course Icelandic.
"Kommen in mein Zimmer für Liebstund, bitte."
Pft, German works too.jason85 wrote:

"Kommen in mein Zimmer für Liebstund, bitte."
from the article:
"Texas requires second language instruction for elementary and middle-school students, Star-Telegram reports. Most schools choose Spanish instruction, but other languages are acceptable for the policy."
Learning a second laguage ? wow, what an outrage. And to be honest, considering you are living next to a couple of million south americans who speak spanish, doesn't it make sense to learn that language ?
Chose a different school if you don't like the second language that is being offered, or lobby for additional french teachers. But saying that this is done to somehow appease mexicans is absurd.
