It was announced yesterday that the Prem League intend to be taking some games across the world for all to see.

For eg (hypothetically)

Manchester United v Manchester City in Melbourne
Liverpool v Everton in Lagos
Arsenal v Spurs in Cairo
Chelsea v Man Utd in Los Angles

Some of the not so appealing

Bolton v Boro in Bejing
Wigan v Sunderland in Toronto
Newcastle v Sunderland in Auckland

Now before we discuss what all this could mean if a mod/admin feels this belongs in DST please move it.

I think its bang out of order for these rich clubs to take our game to other countries whilst in the middle of our season.  I don't go to Prem games my team play in the Coca Cola Championship and I have 2 season tickets there.  I couldn't afford Prem prices even if the closest ground was less that the 2 hours away that it is.

Say for eg it costs a Dad £100 to take himself and his 12 year old to Old Trafford now, how will he be expected to support his team other than on the telly for that away game in Melbourne (eg)?

The reason they want more fans worldwide is more money, no other reason, don't believe the bs about making the Prem League a global brand, it already is, thats why so many Americans have invested.

Its so they can rake in more money to pay the stars upto £150,000 each week, in some cases.

A fella on the radio this morning suggested we boycott the football games in which we are getting ripped off and that would make the clubs reduce the cost.

I have no problems with all the teams playing in a pre season Tourney promoting UK Football, putting it on a global map.

Some people are suggesting the league want to take the "Show on the road" to compete with American Football which is trying to become more world wide aswell (think of last years game at Wembley).

The way the games will be picked is out of a hat, wouldn't you be gutted if you lived in Bejing, maybe pre purchased your ticket (at a high cost I imagine, it will mostly be corporate affairs these matches) and out of the hat your cities game was............(drum roll) ..........Wigan vs Bolton (no offence to either set of fans).  Now when that game appears in the UK I doubt very much it will sell out, how the hell do they think they will sell that the other side of the world.

I love this game but all I can do is sit back and watch it being wrecked by the money men.  A lot of ex pro's and important people within the game reckon the players play too much as it is and thats just one reason England don't go on and win in the tourneys as the players been playing and travelling too much as it is.

I don't mind the "show going on the road" as next year when stoke are in the premiership it will be cool to travel to Melbourne for a good ruck instead of Blackpool and Colchester.

Seriously though i do think the extra game and traveling will again just reduce the chance of England wining a major tournament. Just prolongs the season which is what they were on about reducing at one point. Add we have no winter break and its just to long a season when it comes to be fresh for a tournament.

Money makes the world go round unfortunately, and its the same with the premiership, as they voted unanimously to go ahead with this extra fixture.

So its fuck the national side (wont effect you though 1927 ) and a head with the English league I'm afraid.

They's copying the NFL. The thing is, Football is already popular world wide. Except in America. If anything, they should try and make it more popular in the US&A by playing some games there. Just like they played a game at Wembley, and will do again next season (NFL)

But, even then. I don't think stuff like this needs to be done. As it is already there's too much money involved in the Premiership, or Premier League as they call it now (FFS they should stop changing the names. I still call it Premiership/Division 1/Division 2 etc.. )

Nah mate our National side are fecked anyway.  OK cracking 3-0 win midweek against Norway with our kids playing but 3 or 4 go on a wobbly everytime an away game comes up, Koumas for one.

The Norweign manager said that half of his team hadn't kicked a competative football for a month or so due to the winter break and were rusty because of it, so in terms of a qualifying game maybe the break isn't a good idea, in terms of a tournanment final then maybe it is (won't effect you though Stokie ).

Wales would support a prem game well I think if held in the Mill Stadium, I know the South Wales public always welcomed the FA games we held for the FA while Wembley was being built, but if they think they can go to China and charge £50 for a ticket for that "One off opportunity" then they have been seriously misguided as people over there can't afford it.

Its different with football (soccer). You can go around the world and find someone playing soccer in every country, but you aren't going to see much of American Football.

The NFL is trying to bolster its fan base.....the Premier League is just looking for money.

Thinking about this.....I don't really mind if my Manchester United (Greatest Team on Earth) go to Australia and the US to play a Premiership match.....if I supported them and lived in one of the places it would be an amazing opportunity to see a competitive match without having to pay a load to go overseas.

I think some of the UK fans are being a little selfish, the most likely outcome is that its Man Utd vs. Derby or something like that anyway (none of the Big clubs can play eachother) and its an added match; you're still going to have both home and away matches so everyone can still see them.

I think its a great idea and a worthwhile evolution to the league.

Edit: I'm guessing you're an Arsenal fan, I suppose you have a small argument to that, but not one that will stand up to anything.

Personally I think that playing Premiership games abroad is an ill conceived money grabbing exercise...

Your right which imo makes this even more of a non starter.

Imagine the Chinese looking at the marketing campagin and asking, "Who are .....?" <<< the team that went up via the play off's that year.

QFT, newcastle is not that great of a team but his supporters are among the best if not the best there are.

You think people outside of North East England are interested in Newcastle v Sunderland.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, they arn't.

For eg, Newcastle big club? I think so.  Everyones stopped talking about KK already.  Ask the Asians who is the manager of Sunderland? They arn't going to know I', afraid.

There's not much point in supporting Arsenal. If you're a glory dickhead you support Man U or Chelsea, otherwise you support where you're from. Or a club you really like, but lets face it nobody likes France II. I mean Arsenal...

I think what he was trying to say was if you don't support either Newcastle or Sunderland you don't give a shit. The Manchester derby and North London derby is watched by a lot more people, and if you'tre talking about people watching in Asia there's nothing bigger than United vs. Liverpool.

Glory dickhead? I'm proud to say that my allegiance to a team started when I chose a United bed spread from the Argos catalogue when I was six for Christmas. To be honest it could only have been United, Newcastle, Everton or Liverpool, but I'm glad I chose who I did.
