Help me find a CPU cooler

Right now I am using the stock fan for a q6600. It sucks. I have a warm room and it idles at 43ºC and 55ºC stressed at stock speed. I cannot over clock without the temps making me uneasy. I had a ZALMAN CNPS9700 but it didn't fit on the ASUS P5E because the heatsink mount had small piece of plastic sticking out on the end interfering with the heatsinks on the motherboard. I had the RMA that cooler.

Now I'm looking at the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835186134)
It look like a good cooler for the price but does anyone recommend it? It comes with pre-applied termal paste. If i get that cooler should i get some Artic Sliver 5?
If anyone recommends another cooler please let it be a 4 pin connecter and must fit on a ASUS P5E

Using 10% CPU power (E6400) I am currently at around 31-32C, jumping to about 38-40 on full load - stock Intel. Not much of a difference, eh? ...

The Freezer 7 Pro is very good I have one too, and it keeps my P4 4.2GHz (1.6v) at under 70C, full load. Always under 40 unclocked and on stock voltages. Should keep those effective C2D's in the 30's and 40's on most clocks, really.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The Freezer 7 Pro is a great cooler, and the preapplied thermal paste is the Arctic Cooling MX-1, which is comparable to the overrated AS5.

If the CNPS9700 didnt fit Im not sure what to tell you. Thermalright Ultra120 + a 120MM fan or Freezer7Pro are great coolers.

I have a E6750 at 22C idle in BIOS with a Freezer Pro 7 28 in Vista. It is a great fan for the price.

lol. My CPU idles around that temp. I haven't seen go above 30ish too.

@ Overdose: I think adequate airflow is just as important as getting a good CPU cooler. Make sure your system can breathe!
We have the same case, I leave my fans running on medium (Top fan on high) Make sure your cables aren't restricting the airflow also.

That is one hell of a nice CPU cooler. It's not as well-known as the Thermalright and Zalman stuff, but performs on par with the Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme.

My OC'd E6750 idles around 34°C and 50°C max load. How much do you think the Xigmatek or Kingwin HS will cool it down?

There is literally nothing better than a Thermalrite Ultra-120 for how much it is and what it is. No fancy design (can be a downpoint if you're ghey), no dodgey electrical bits and bobs inside that can go wrong. In my home PC, which I built for the 'rents, uses one with no fan and it keeps the E6600 nicely chilled. Slap on a silent 120mm fan and you'll be smiling.

Ultra-120 Extreme, not just terrific, it's the best, bar none.

Honestly you dont really need giant coolers to run your CPU at 20c on full load. As long as its under 70c at a full load nothing bad will come of it. Shit, my P4 CPU has been running at 80c on medium load for years, and nothing has died. The Freezer7Pro can cool very well and it is very cheap, you dont need to spend another $40 on something that will keep the CPU below zero unless it makes you feel better. Thermalright Ultra120 is major overkill IMO.
