NOTE: ( did a search, found nothing)

As GPU's get bigger, Ram Requirements go up, Processors requiring more complex cooling, multiple chipsets for Raid and etc,  isn't it about time that they make the standard motherboard a little bigger?

I know a decent bit about Computers, build my own, and I just kinda wonder why they don't expand it a bit? OR have they?.   They change the slots around, for Tri-SLI and such, but sacrifice a few PCI slots for it.   Has, will, or won't they expand beyond the "ATX" format of motherboards?

I almost put this in "everything else" since it's not too serious of a question, but it is Tech-y soo...

i agree with rooster that they should expand the size of the std mobo, but then the next upgrade you do you can't just move the old board into a new case w/o paying extra

Yeah, i know that's a big issue, that if the board changes size, there are compatability issues, but someday, there just won't be enough room on that size, and it will just have to change.

has anyone seen the new skulltrail board that intel announced?  Its not really that great yet, no programs can really utilize all 8 cores...

As technology improves, they will invent new ways to put tons of power into a little machine.

Well after 5 seconds on google I have found this useful site.

http://www.pcguide.com/ref/case/formWTX-c.html

Your right it is for servers, they're the ones that are multiple CPU friendly.

as of right now there is no need for bigger motherboards. Everything that needs to be on it fits easily. Especially if motherboard makers start putting the PCI-e & PCI slots in more logical positions
