What's the lowdown on lightscribe? Yes I know what it is, but I'm wondering what people's experiences with it are. Does it show up on the disc clearly? How much can you do with lightscribe? How long does it take to burn?

My DVD burner has lightscribe, but I keep forgetting to buy media that's lightscribe compatible. I don't do any fancy artwork on custom CDs or anything, just write with markers the track names and numbers, and occasionally other info. I've still got another spindle of 50, but I'm wondering if it'll even be worth it to get lightscribe compatible media.

Yes it shows up clearly (at least the one's i've burned) and with good software you can do quite alot, background image, title, tarcks.  the downside is it takes quite a while to burn a disc if it is detailed.  I usually only use it for things i know i'll keep a while and stuff for my wife because she likes the pretty discs better than the sharpie method.  I keep both kinds f media so i don't waste lightscribe discs if i don't plan on burning an image to them.

Yeah, I like the lightscribe for the professional look.

I burn regular discs for everyday use (eg. vehicle cd's)

It usually takes about 30 to 45 mins to burn the label side.

Data side is your normal time.

I have noticed that if you want clear labels, find pictures with high contrast, and sharp edges.

If you get pictures that gradually change colors or shades, they come out a bit fuzzy.

Or it just doesn't pick it up right.

Luckily there is a preview button before you burn to show you how it is going to look, before you burn it.
