OK now this may sound like a really strange question, but.... IS ELECTRIC CHEAPER AT NIGHT??? the reason i ask is that when i was much younger my old dear always used to the washing at night, i could always hear it from my room, NOW i dont know if it was me just thinking this, but i am sure she told me that there was a lower rate at night hence cheaper electric, Eco7 or some shit, i thought that was just for heating????
it depends on where you live. some places have variable cost rates, meaning cost flucuates up and down in accordance with peak usage hours.
I dont know about UK energy rates, but electricity here does have different rates from the generation company.
Depends on where you live, yes. In germany it is, I know that for a fact.
thats wierd, we get charged by KWH and a meter reading, how else would they be able to tell?
as a child i lived in London, but now live in Plymouth Devon, its only just occurd to me to ask that question after almost 14 years of always doing my washing after 2300H lolEnder2309 wrote:

I pay per kilowatt-hour, invariant of when the electricity is used.
maybe after a certain time your meter goes round slower, with a built in timer.Locoloki wrote:

depends on the electricity company. At my parents place the rate is always the same, over here it's slightly cheaper at night
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Yes, electricity is cheaper at night.Rubix-Cubes wrote:

Less demand.
Midnight til 7am, it's cheaper.
Electricity has more demand at night, because that's when you turn your house hold lights on, watch more tv, etc. But after midnight it's assumed most people are asleep and most lights will be out. It's the late night to early morning hours electricity will be cheaper.

my mom advised me a long time ago that's the reason she always does laundry at night
In the UK its cheaper at night, its something like 12p in the day and 6p at night.Or something like that,my missus was talking about it.But as usual i wasn't paying any attention.Rubix-Cubes wrote:

I live in the UK and its done by KiloWatt hours, same rate all the time, unless yours is different
Same, but i think this depends on your provider (powergen, norweb etc)bennisboy wrote:

Yes and no, it depends on your electricity provider and wot deal you have going with them. Depending on your provider you can arrange to have cheaper electricity rates at night. The downside is that you'll pay more than usual for daytime usage, by how much I can't remember. I almost went with it but decided not to in the end because I'm not heavy consumer of electricity at night.Rubix-Cubes wrote:

At the end of they day it all depends on when you want/intend to use a significant amount of electricity and whether you can stick to that schedule.
Southern California Edison does indeed have cheaper rates during the evenings.
