It's from the Daily Mail, so approach with caution. Of course it is a possibility.Islamist extremists have infiltrated Government and key public utilities to pass sensitive information to terrorists, the security services have warned…
The development is detailed in intelligence reports circulated to the Home Office, police and Whitehall officials.
The London Underground, Gatwick airport and BT are cited as examples of organisations which have been targeted by individuals linked to terrorists…
Several police officers and civilian staff are being monitored amid claims they are long-term sleepers trying to gain sensitive information of use to terrorists.
Some are even believed to have attended terror training camps in Pakistan or Afghanistan…
MI5 has warned in the past that suspects with “strong links” to Osama Bin Laden have tried to join the British security services and, in January last year, exiled radical Omar Bakri claimed that Islamic extremists were infiltrating the police and other public sector organisations.
They don't provide any concrete source for anything they say. Notice that they say things like 'it is understood that' --> understood by who? "Intelligence reports circulated to" -- the Daily Mail? I don't fucking think so!
"Counter-terrorism officials say..." --> name them, who are these 'counter-terrorism officials'!
"Some are even believed to have..." --> believed by who? What's your source!!?
"Security sources say there is evidence..." --> wanna tell me which 'security sources' these might be? Thought not.
All sourceless bullshit to try make a story about an extradited terrorist working as a traffic warden (that's a pretty serious level of infiltration...!!!!) sound like the head of MI5 is an Al Qaeda mole. Typically hilarious Daily Mail. I have no doubt that they will make attempts at infiltration but I happen to think the MI5 and MI6 are more than well equipped than most secret services to deal with such a threat.
