That is a computer problem. I ran BF2 with 30% of RAM still available with 2GB.
Better PSU.
Why are you still keeping that beast of CPU? It's pointless for the rest of the setup. Bin it and upgrade something else.
I did a setup in Overclockers. But the thing is that the Pound:Euro difference is huge and it blows everything out of proportion for those Europeans.
http://i31.tinypic.com/193wip.jpg580 stretches everything to a limit. If the budget can't be touched, then grab a 8600GTX as it will play everything perfectly at such a low resolution.
That setup looks pretty optimal. One note, though, and that is, that I've got that exact same PSU, and it works wonderfully great, but the fan controllers never work. I had it replaced twice before deciding to mod it to my fan controller. If noise isn't an issue, it's perfect.

It's not for him, its for a friend.
yes, for a friend of my little brother brother to be presize.
But why is the kingston ram so bad in your eyes?
The kid isn't going to overclock, doesn't need a-brands etc.
Now if I swap the dodgy PSU for the chieftec one, it wouldn't be an bad configuration right? For a budget PC I already extended the budget from 500 to 580? Yes the ram sucks in your eyes, and no it isn't an P35 or x38 motherboard, but for those parts the budget isn't big enough.
For ram, you just need A-brands. I'm sorry but the last you want is it failing on you or giving you errors. As others said, dodge the 3GB of waste RAM and get 2GB of good performing A-brand (OCZ for example) RAM instead. It will perform better and I don't know what crapped up your pc so much that 2GB wasn't enough, but on mine I never had lag with it. I upgraded to 4GB just because I could
I don't get it, what's wrong with Kingston? Sure, they're not the greatest clockers, but I still have the 512MB stick of DDR that I bought three years ago in use, and it's still woring wonderfully. I even have a PC133 stick here that I bought in '03 that's working flawlessly.
