  • A minor, but irritating email problem with which I could use some help

I just got a new computer (actually it was an employee's but that's another story).

It is a whiz bang laptop with 3G of ram, blah, blah blah, and it has Vista. It had Outlook 2007 but I hated it so I retroinstalled Outlook XP. Well, EVERY SINGLE TIME I start the damned program it makes me put in my passwords for my email. I click "save in list" and all that shit, and it's in my account settings, and it STILL makes me put it in every time.

I have Spybot and I have TuneUp Utilities and I'm wondering if maybe either of those are doing it, if it's because the Outlook is old, or if I'm missing a file or something.

Anyone have any ideas?

And by the way, thanks in advance for whatever help you can give me. I appreciate it.

I believe its just the fact that the XP version is not supposed to be used with Vista. So when you go to save passwords, it wont work because of compatability problems.

Vista can be a bitch when it comes to older MS products. MS specifically made it so Vista could only work with their latest products ( more money for them ). Like IE6, its impossible to install it on Vista.

go into the accounts screen, and make sure the password field is filled out correctly under the logon settings. (go to tools>e-mail accounts, highlight your mail settings, and click the "change" button on the right.)  Verify the logon user name and password for you account.  It's most likely asking you because the password you have cached there has been typed wrong, that's why it keep prompting you.  Even though you give it the right one and click "remember," it will try to use the old one every time you open Outlook.  Let me know if it happens again.  My office uses outlook exclusively for their email, so i am pretty certain i can help you fix this.

Took your suggestion, redid the account, logged out, logged back in, and it was still doing it... asked for my password (exact same one that's saved in the account file) and it worked. I'm sure tomorrow when I sign in it'll ask again.

Thanks for trying though!

hmmm, strange... does it ask everytime you check your mail?  or only the first time you open Outlook?
