Peace to the Aborigines.
Today was a big day for Australia. Looking at the aboriginals faces on the TV shows how important it was to them. The recognition of their past suffering ( mainly to the stolen generation) was hugely important. Hopefully its an important step forward, real changes hopefully will be made in their living standards.
Interesting to note that Howard was the only living Prime minister not to attend, even Fraser attended. Whitlam attended in a wheelchair. Showed Howard as the uncharitable c**t that he really is.

Well it's a topic that's being well discussed across Australia. Below is a post I made on another gaming forum in a rare current affairs thread after some broad and varied opinions had been expressed. One poster suggested that Aboriginies have had it good since the government gives them extra social security benefits. The post before mine was pointing out the lack of technology toted by the defenders prior to European invasion. So the first paragraph was really me rebutting the claim that high tech is "better". After that I try to appeal to the humanity of the reader to show that it's not a case of "those Abbos asking for more money again". And I'm sorry to quote myself, but it's past my bedtime.

How would we feel if (I'll use an example close to home) an invading Indonesean army told us we had to forfeit all our land and belongings and then later, they send "welfare officers" to forcably take our children off to where they'll be better looked after,... taught the "right" way to live - the Indonesean way - and learn the benefits of Islam (because God is Great). Then 50 years later, after our children have struggled (through racial prejudice and social stigma) to come to terms with this wonderful thing that the Indoneasean government has done for them (well they got some extra cash, that should make up for us screwing up their whole family), we'll think it's OK that their protests of unfair treatment fall on deaf ears.
And as far as compensation goes - well, we've given them more than enough. Actually, if they're in for more of the same, I'd advise against asking for a second helping.

how much is this going to cost australia when all the compensation claims come in.....although i did hear someone say that it wouldnt be possible

so i didnt actually see the speach, but i heard that the new Liberal leader upset a few Aborigines with his speach
